vehicle is aimed to carry high caliber weapons without sacrificing the strategic or tactical mobility. Mechanical
integration of turret with chassis, stability during firing, and compatibility of 105 mm Indian Armour Piercing Fin
Stabilised Discarding Sabot (APFSDS) ammunition with turret have been established during the trials.

Salient Features
3 men crew for turret
105 mm semiautomatic main
gun with muzzle brake

(Armour Piercing Discarding
Sabot), HESH (High Explosive
Squash Head) ammunition
COTAC semiautomatic Fire
Control System (FCS)
Accurate ranging by LRF
Low-light level TV for
commander and gunner
Panoramic sight for
Commander

is it comparable to other light tanks of the wold

.
Is it on paper yet or still a wet dream, looking at the delays in every indain project I guess its not even gotten wet yet

I doubt we'll hear much about this in the future.

A different design is already being developed along with Poland... It is supposed to have a 120mm gun.
Besides the armor on BMP-2 is too poor to be used as a light tank.

Can you give me a solid link that says India is even involved with the Anders tank? Or interested?

105 mm Light Tank

DRDO has developed a light tank based on BMP-II chassis with 105 mm turret (GIAT industries, France).

It was developed as a tech demonstrator, just like the Abhay IFV or the Tank EX. Good to improve industrial capabilities and to tests and trials

He didn't mentioned the Anders, but I don't think India has such a coop either. The Anders was offered to India by it's manufacturer, but currently there is no sign for deeper interest in it, lets wait and see when RFPs or trials for the light tank / tank destroyer competitions will be held.

I'm pretty sure this was purely a tech demonstrator and won't enter operational service.

I don't think this is a good idea. Better stick to infantry fighting vehicles and heavier tanks. It looks like it'll be easy to take out with a cheap RPG.

Light tanks are useful in mountainous terrain where infrastructure may not support an MBT. Light
tanks can be equipped with composite armor plates that weigh less and very difficult to penetrate. All
such light tanks will be for our NE border with china.

IFVs are cheaper but they're inadequately armored, and can only thrive under cover of MBTs, but light
tanks are meant to replace the role of an MBT in terrain and conditions not suitable for the latter.

Project was based on the idea of deployement of tanks as an instrument of fear in high altitude such as ladakh where the deployement of tanks where considered unlikely. This tactic was successfuly employed during the indo pak war (don't remember which ,i think its the 1947) in which light tank( amx 13 i think) was dismantled and flown to war spots via An-12s.

Later the T-72 -Il-76 combo changed the impression that only light tanks can be deployed in high altitudes, when T-72s where ferried intact to ladakh by Gajrajs.

This project was an idea to make use of Sarath platforms and project faced some cost overruns. The project wasn't exactly in interest of the army then, this particular project won't make a comeback IMO.
