Madhya Pradesh: Vyapam scambuster blows whistle on ‘violent’ Doraemon

BHOPAL:
Ashish Chaturvedi, the whistleblower of country's biggest education scam, Vyapam is now crusading against two of the world's most famous Japanese cartoon characters- Doraemon and Shin Chan.
He feels that the adverse psychological impacts of the two Hindi and English dubbed 'violent' cartoons are grappling a whole generation of kids across India and the world, which is more dangerous than Vyapam scam.
Angry Chaturvedi has served legal notices on Disney India, Hungama TV, Indian broadcasting foundation, union ministry of information and broadcasting, union ministry of women and child development and principal secretary, women and development ministry, Madhya Pradesh. Notice has also been sent to Mc Donald for offering Doraemon toys.
Chaturvedi is all set to file PIL seeking a ban on their telecast armed with several medial reports highlighting mental abuse and other serious adverse impact of these cartoons on kids.
"When I saw a young boy imitating 'Nobita Nobi' (the main character of Doraemon) I clapped for him. But, I was completely shocked when his parents said that he was so addicted to Doraemon and they have not been able to get him out of 'Nobita' he was aping. He keeps asking for gadgets or hoping for a miracle to happen, just like Nobita," says Chaturvedi citing it as major a reason behind battle against telecast of Japanese and Chinese cartoons in India.
"Cartoon like Tom and Jerry that we have grown up watching is fine. I am sure there is a huge money game involved prompting Indian regulatory authorities to sit on thousands of complaints they receive every day," he said adding Nobita is usually uncoordinated, weak, foolish, frail, childish and bad at sports.
"Vyapam is restricted to two or three states but of the 36 million kids watching cartoons in India every week, more than half watch Doraemon and Shin Chan. So, which is more dangerous Vyapam or Doremon? "asks Chaturvedi.
Legal notices from Chaturvedi's has been served by a Gwalior based high court advocate Sonali Suryavanshi.
"In one of the episodes of Doraemon, children were requesting Nobita's father to make smoke rings from a lit cigarette/cigar, which is highly objectionable and needless to mention, in appropriate content to be aired for children. This has further led to children requesting their parents to do unwanted things or emulate them," said Sonali.
She said Indian broadcasting foundation had received a complaint on the 'smoke ring' issue in 2015 but they closed it saying "BCCC directed the channel to be cautious, refrain from showing scenes of smoking and air a warning during any such depiction. The complaint was disposed of".
"Just an advisory is not going to help it. Instead of opting for deletion of such scenes that are inappropriate for children, regulatory body simply closed the complaint," said Sonali.
