Friends seem to miss be missing the forest for the trees - the larger development is the creation of an ideology, a support structure for the that ideology and the creation of cadre for the promotion of that ideology -- an ideology, support structure and cadre, that is a new development within thought under the general rubric of "Islamic" -- this is a novel, even revolutionary development - it's now up to ordinary Muslims to decide whether they will opt for this new ideology and this revolutionary novelty.

That is the tripod - ideology, support and cadre - that we need to shape, influence and disrupt, if rising radicalism is to be controlled. The ideology must countered with education that presents a broadened view, removing support by limiting unchecked and unaudited flow of money and directly engaging the cadres which try to propagate in more fruitful endeavors, such an gainful employment.

There's only one version of Islam, not moderate, liberal or extremist. These are people, who twist a simple religion to the direction they themselves want it to be.
As far as extremist go, most of them are uneducated, as someone mentioned here before. The most simple and obvious cure is to educate them.
