How much power does Bangladesh require?

As of 2019, Avg. KWH per person per year consumed in India is 935, that of Pakistan is 557, and that of Bangladesh is 433. Long way to go. However Bangladesh does not have power hungry industries like steel smelters and basic steel or aluminium refining and processing industries.
Bold part: You can see how our bureaucrats and uneducated politicians led by Hasina Bibi or Khaleda Begum are so able to put carts before the horses.

Contrary to what we believe, industries consume most of the electricity. But, Bd has almost no heavy industries and people do not have the purchasing power because their incomes are meager since there are almost no large number of manufacturing industries to employ most of them.

.
Lot of Nuclear power stations in Canada and they have plenty of oil too (Alberta area).

Per capita consumption of electricity in Canada is higher than even US, something like 14,000 + KWH/year/person.

That of the UK is in 5000 range.
Yes. But also Quebec has massive hydro facilities. Most of new york state hydro comes from Quebec.

And yes hydro mean electricity in canada lol since u are from south ha ha.

BD need good transmission line. lot of people in villages still dont have good connection. maybe that's the reason why consumption is low?

However, some Nasrul or someone claims 99.5% of households are connected.

By the way, why do you guys are worried if people are connected or not? The important thing is if this electricity is being consumed by mills and factories that produce new wealth every day.

It seems there is a power glut because industrial facilities are absent. We should be worried more about this and less about households. Households will keep on limiting power consumption because they are without jobs that pay them money. They are jobless because industries have not been built.

.
The economy is struggling to keep up with BBS growth figures which partly explains the lagging growth in power demand. We need some radical change to bring in more investment in heavy manufacturing industries.

The entire country needs to be brought under the national grid for uninterrupted power supply.

Road infrastructure connecting industries to ports and airports also need to improve drastically.

You are the only sane person to perceive the necessity of establishing the metal and chemical-based manufacturing industries in the country for the benefit of employment growth and the production of national wealth.

Power consumption then becomes a necessity because all the machines need power to operate. All today's power glut issue is solved. But, even if our leaders understand the necessity of manufacturing plants today, it will take at least another 5 years to gradually build them. The glut will continue in the meantime.

Road density (KM of roads per 100 sq.KM) is much higher in Bangladesh (Ranked in the Top 20) than either India or Pakistan, because Bangladesh is a much more densely populated place. All the more surprising when you consider that most roads have to be built above flood level on embankments, which is far more expensive to do. Mithamoin type situation (see image).

Two major issues these stats don't tell you:
- the quality of the roads are very poor in many areas. Roads are not wide enough to support smooth shipment.
- population density is many times more.

On a separate note, let us please stop comparing with fellow hell holes.
BD's reference points should be the likes of Singapore, South Korea and Japan - countries which went from poor to rich despite lack of natural resources. Being better than the likes India and Pakistan is not an achievement by any means

Here is the power grid coverage map in Bangladesh. There is little chance of the govt. BSing us, because transformers and transmission lines are real, people can see them. This was the situation in 2019, I'm sure things have gone beyond that now.

I agree. Have to be realistic though.

By the way - here is more data....

This is a sweet problem. The more we grow, and we will, these surplus power will soon be needed. So we are on the right track.

I just hope that soon they fix this overhead cable problem in the main cities. It is ugly & risky.

Good to see you back bd_4_ever bhai
The cable situation was solved in sylhet and it looks totally different now. However Dhaka city cooperation is extremely corrupt, expect the cables to keep hanging

Some upscale neighborhood that’s it. They made Dhaka worse now, underneath the bridges serve as waste storage, chicken farms and many other illegal establishments. Dhaka is a gone case. If you’re not rich, it’s not worth it to stay in Dhaka

Dhaka is beyond saving bro. They did try it in some sectors of Uttara and other newer parts of the city, but I don't think anyone can untangle the wires in old parts of Dhaka.
