How much money is enough for you?

That is the key word in all of this discussion.

In Pakistan the inflation is high. But then don't have multiple kids if you can't afford them. Kids are the biggest drain on resources and they are okay so long as you can afford them and dedicate your life to them.

But in America, food, even healthy food, is still affordable. And despite the recent wave of inflation, I don't see that most people would be food-challenged. And, on the whole, there are so many great choices in America for climates, cost of living, job opportunities, safe and secure living. People need to get out of their comfort zones if those are not comfort zones anymore.

But America is a horrible place to live. And the dollar is dead.

(We need to say the above, and not what you are saying in yuor posts. :D )

I quite working for anyone around 2010 and never once regretted it even with my degree I'm making almost 4x as much someone with a 9 to 5 be making. My personality doesn't allow me to take orders from anyone regardless of the number of years he/she on me, I look down on others as beneath me.

During University day's took a job as a sales person at Circuit City while they were around, the store manager comes up to me while I'm at the register and puts the formula and cloth on the counter in front of me, I ask him what for, he tells me to start cleaning the racks and stuff. Took the cloth and threw it back at him and told him you clean your damn store your more than welcome to be a house b1tch but not me, walked out before he said he said he's going to fire me. That job lasted no more than 3 weeks at most I'd say.

Having my own business and schedule has allowed me the flexibility to do my own thing and attend to the family as needed.

Bravo!
I remember some 'investment' related threads where you had mentioned your investment strategies. I could learn a lot from you!
PS. Related to your Circuit City job incident, you may enjoy the movie '40 Year old Virgin'. It's so much fun movie!

Lol, that movie was funny. :)

Those investments stocks, options, and futures generate approx. 15% of my income rest comes from my insurance agency, consulting and real estate investments (joint family owned).

I don't think I could ever have your 'quality' of life. Not being critical of you, btw. Just that the stress to come up with such a large amount of money every month would be too much for me. I have a friend who has been making good money and is generally fit/healthy had to have a heart surgery some months ago, and a mini-stroke happened after that. He attributes that to job stress and realizes forever he will have to live with the debilitating affects of the stroke. NO SIR! Not for me! But you do have the Universal Health Insurance which we Americans don't unless we fudge the numbers and get the Obama Care--and I personally know some who are living off MY tax dollars taking undue advantage of Obama Care.

I will also say America is not just 'could be' but it IS a very cheap country to live in! There are so many quality options in this country for climates and cost of living. And opportunities too.

Brother, it is more to do with planning. I work hard, but I keep my things well under control. So I do not have any stress about money. I have set my channels , not just one source to produce Income. This past tax year , we declared our household income above £144,000, or $ 198,000 before allowable expenses and allowances. The work we do, we don't get to pay that much taxes, which would be do on such income otherwise. So you can say I am cash rich.

Now I am actively buying properties so when I come to retirement , I can still live the life I am living without worrying about peanuts I will get from pension pot. I design to make at least £4000 per month in rent when I retire so, I do not have to worry about finances.

You think a Rs. 100,000 per month reliably could get a life that you desire?? I am really curious! The last time I went to Pakistan in Dec. 2019, I was told by a cousin in Karachi that I could have a decent life for Rs. 200,000-300,000 thousand a month? But I have not a good idea. Everytime I speak with family and friends in Karachi they also moan about inflation and how things so unaffordable.
I am a young, single guy who has no financial dependents and wants to live in a log cabin in the mountains. Rs 100,000 should be enough 😂

Hey Man, sounds like a good plan! I do think about settling in some small hilly town in Pakistan. Pakistan has all climates--so move with the seasons, like a lot of Americans and Canadians do.

Related to this discussion, I have a story to tell. Real and recent one. So wife and I go to this fancy restaurant at a lake not far from the house on weekends. We meet millionaires from all over America. A nice 64 year old guy is becoming a friend. But his 61 year old wife sits with a strange absent glaze in her eyes. I thought was 'high'. But he said she's been recently diagnosed with a rare and incurable dementia and still could live 20 more years in such a state. And he said he could lose everything except his primary residence (nice house at the lake) and his vehicle because of the medical care. They are retired but told me that's not what he had imagined his 'Golden Years' were going to be like. So lifelong planning and hard-work coming to this. I truly feel for them.

We are significantly younger than them. He advised me to not think too far about the future which may never come or come in very different shape. We sort of do anyway: Modest life but lots of partying and significant traveling with just enough investment to maybe have $2000-3000/month in our retirement--if it ever comes!

Why not fair? Working people support the US Social Security. Me and other Gen X-ers worked all our lives to support the Boomers. The next generations need to EARN their living as we did!

like any hippie on 70s drugs, you managed to answer yourself.

Huh? Hippies don't contribute tens of thousands in taxes on lifelong bases without getting enough in return--as those working Americans like me do!

ah well what can I say. now you have more kids to feed without giving them a surname.

i have noted your concept of a fair system of societal economics.
