anyways its clearly visible from your thread that you have no idea about Durga Puja in west Bengal.

why the hell would there be police for religious intolerance ?? the police is there for guidance to the pandal hoppers, as the entire city (irrespective of their religion) doesnt sleep during these 5 days...you wil find lacs people from kids to women to teenagers jus roam around in best of their attires..its just like some kind of street celebration that goes on until the sun rises. So its but natural that you need police to guide people who have lost their way..for people who might face any kind of problem (theft, fights, stampede or any general complain).

eid is celebrated here the way Muslims celebrate all over the world. its a National Holiday on Eid.

Actually during Durga Puja in BD many intolerant people try to vandalize idols in Mandir thats why police and RAB are deployed for security.

Bangladeshi Muslims and Hindus all celebrate Eid festival. Do Muslims also participate in Durga Puja festival in West Bengal? Not for Puja but for festival?

Lots of marketing in muslim areas,certainly no police protection.Guys with muslim friends often get treated with biriyani.
Durgapuja is whole diff ballgame..its mostly one grand party..a cultural thing.U can not visit a single pujahall seriously and still enjoy the environment thoroughly as day,night doesn't matter.
Eid is buzzing but not as all encompassing.

Durga is Parvati. Bengali Hindus worship goddess Parvati as goddess Durga.

Do West Bengalis celebrate Eid together? I am curious to know. I haven't seen any news about it in Indian Bangla channels. Its India related. That's why its part of Indian defense. Any West Bengali hearing me?

not a Bengali , but my elders moved to Pak from Calcutta, visited it, Eid is celebrated quite good, heck people even eats beef , even some non-Muslim Bengalis (no kidding),there are a lot of misconception regarding beef consumptions in India, beef is banned in some states but not all, Calcutta's famous kati roll is a famous beef roll, you get plenty of beef items in hakka restaurants too , the city is quite similar to Karachi (except for the law n order situation @present which is bad in Karachi) otherwise the two cities are quite similar especially when it comes to their liberal & tolerant discourse with a strong multicultural environment

seviyan or sheer khourma, our family is famous in Karachi for this plus firni or kheer both of which they bought from Calcutta
there is also another Anglo-Indian dish we cook, its called kata masala its made with beef, small pieces potatoes & gingers & malai jhinga (prawns)
as for Eid there is
biriyani ,paya, boti kabab, gurda kabab, bihari kabab, chap ,handi kabab, seekh kabab, , rizala, qourma, sada pulao, bindaloo , namak gosh, shahi tukra, doodh ka sharbat, chukander gosh, malai jhinga, crap curry, pinaple palla( hilsa machli) kata( roho machli), tikia ( aka shami kabab) jhinga dopiaza,

hmm.. not patron daity but most bengalis worship her.
Every hindu worships 1 god/goddess primarily although hinduism has multiple gods and most houses have room for worship(with many gods).
East India worships goddess (some other goddess if not durga), which is different from rest of India.

brahma is not worshipped by anybody I know. Shiva, Vishnu(or many of his avatars) are worshipped primarily. Ganesha was not a popular god, but hinduism is evolving and currently ganesha and shiva are very popular gods.

Ganesha is worshipped first before all others because it brings prosperity and good luck but some consider Shiva to be the supreme being and some consider Vishnu it depends on which school of thought you follow.
