Lt. Gen. Naveed Mukhtar apparently shares some tenuous and distant non-blood relations (through his wife) with one of the businessmen very close to Nawaz Sharif (Ch. Munir, whose son is married to Maryam Nawaz's daughter.) This means NOTHING when you consider the actual degrees of connectivity. Gen Mukhtar is serving the country very well --- and his CT staff made a lot of sacrifices when he was a 2-star at the ISI. His leadership at the ISI includes everything that Nawaz wouldn't want, like keeping India on its toes, hunting TTP in Afghanistan and quietly maintaining strategic depth. Even people with close relations (i.e. brothers) can have totally opposing viewpoints, so this propaganda against Gen NM seems mostly based on rumor (rather than fact) propagated by people who have little-to-no knowledge of how the ISI has been functioning. If he was simply a pawn installed by Nawaz, he could have been rotated out of his position now that the interim government is in power.
The entire Dawn Leaks conspiracy was a direct attempt to malign the army and put it under pressure by the Nawaz government at the expense of Pakistan's international reputation and standing. It was, in my opinion, treason. The article failed to mention any context at all, such as Indian support of terror groups or America's colorful history of training/arming/funding terror outfits across the world. It made it seem like Pakistan is the only country that (allegedly) does this. Evil stuff.
