How could India / Pak / B'Desh manufacturing labour compete with China's?

now we know India can never catch up with China, they never try to find their own problems when falling behind others, they spent all their time finding excuses and others faults to try to cover their failure.that's good, keep it up.ha

Trolling is not needed .... I don't think you have any meaningful to contribute; so keep away.

I don't think "protectionism" is the right approach. After all, why shouldn't we too enjoy exploited labour, if every other country does.

But we need to find competitive strengths .... that simply exploitation will not be able to counter !

(e.g. labour exploitation in China is not sufficient to affect our software exports).

Also, what are Pakistan's and BD's plans for this .... they also face the same dilemna !!!!

I'm sure they are also finding chinese table fans and toys in their markets ... though they have much smaller volumes (because of market size and lower foreign exchange reserves).

I seriously think there should be a higher tariff for imports from China. Restriction of imports from China would lead to a spurt of Industries in India. Just like the 110% chicken tax on automobile imports
There are low cost mobile retailers in India like micromax. But most of their phones are cheap Chinese imports. Very little is manufactured in their facility in India. A tax on imports will increase the price of Chinese goods making them go for alternative ways, that is manufacturing in India
It is almost foolish for Indian manufacturers to export goods abroad after looking at what happened to Bajaj and the 'Gulsar' :D. Instead, in my opinion, we should be focusing on exporting processed food and medicare products to China. I think those will see a large market over there.
But a entry tax will save Us nothing. whole world accepts China as a "Factory" for every type of goods bulk manufactured. There is no point in blaming Indian manufacturers. There is simply no competition wr. to price with China goods. setting plants in India will be a costly affair when You see cheap products easily available on your market.

in future may be, china may become niche products manufacturing hub outsourcing mass manufacturing to the other east asian countries like vietnam etc. no point India can churn out mass production of cheap products.

Not really. If we didn't have the 110% tax for CBUs, you wouldn't see these many car companies investing to set up plants here in India. India has the advantage of being a large market. That too, a growing market. I strongly believe that if the tax is increased, companies like Nokia, Motorola and Ericsson will invest large sums in India due to waning demand(high prices). The market is simply too big to give up. A chicken tax for Chinese imports to India doesn't mean those manufacturers cant export their goods to other countries.:D

Chinese workers enjoy some of the best working conditions in the developing world and also some of the highest pay. Basic pay for an unskilled laborer is at least RMB 2000 / month. That is already $300+ US. Some people are willing to work tougher jobs and they get paid RMB 4000+ / month with room and board. That's more than $600 US. I don't think an indian makes that much money in a year.

These stories about employee abuse are fake. Chinese workers are very picky about who they work for. If you don't treat your workers well, very soon nobody will be working for you.

can't find a job with RMB 2000 / month at least in Beijing,a waitress job is RMB3500 with free food and accomodation.

Minimum Wages in Kerala Kerala Minimum wage
List of minimum wages in People's Republic of China - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia China minimum wage

Taking a 200 rs daily pay for simple calculation, turns out to be about 770 RMB per month in Kerala

List of countries by GDP (PPP) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia List of GDP PPP
List of countries by GDP (nominal) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia List of GDP Nominal

Things are about (1 and a half times) as costly in China compared to India

GDP $5.4 trillion nominal -> GDP $10.1 trillion PPP (China)
GDP $1.6 trillion nominal -> GDP $4.0 trillion PPP (India)

So looking at the facts, an Indian agricultural worker is on par with his/her Chinese counterpart if not better in terms of pay .
Also, the working conditions over in India are much better than in China.

I was going to read it, then I saw NY Times. I have more respect for Fox news.

there is prevalent child labors and slave labors in India, but we never say the whole India is like that.sweatshops exist in all countries, funny thing is one sweatshop found in China and Indian posters naively believe that all Chinese factories are sweatshops, that's very funny Indian perception.actually most Chinese big factories are state owned, and workers enjoy pretty good government care, health care, retirement pension, insurance, social benefits.in China we have strict law that employers have to pay for employees insurance(三险for retirement pension and medicare and so on),otherwise employees can take them to court and sue them for higher compensation.I hope that is also the case in India.

come to Chinese factories and have a look, one can easily find that out.

My close Chinese friend's dad is the head of some factory in China. He said the working conditions over there are pretty bad compared to international standards. Actually, that guy doesn't want to go back to China because he thinks there is a lot of freedom here in Singapore.
LOL. I cant imagine what will happen if he goes to India. I feel a bit held down here in Singapore with all these stupid laws here. Actually I cant wait to finish graduation and jump out of this godforsaken $hythole.

That is the problem with the Chinese. Here in North America, there are very few people who consider themselves as Chinese. I guess those that immigrate are pissed at their own people for a reason. China was once a very patriotic country, but now, it seems as though they've shifted towards Capitalism.

if they were born in Canada ,of cause they think they think they are more Canadian than Chinese.Europeans are also like that,if they were born in Canada, they surely think they are Canadians than Europeans.maybe you just met a couple of individuals, but the fact is oversea Chinese ,most of them, have a strong bond with China.

Exactly!
I don't know why that happens with Chinese and others. I was't born in Pakistan, but somehow, there are many like me born outside but yet we love Pakistan.

I have seen a lot of Chinese and Indians. They would invest money in their countries, but never actually go and live there... Opportunists!! IMO, that is not being nationalist.
