How can PM Sheikh Hasina let this happen under her watch: Javed Akhtar on anti-Hindu violence in Bangladesh

When the 10℅ minority is supported by the billion hindu majority next door to change the country's identity, then this will happen. You see rats posing as bangladeshis and saying hinduism is their "culture" lolz. They misbehave with our holly book. What else did these rats expect? Not just this, they kill muslims in their own country, terming them as bengalis. Its evident they actually want to subdue bengalis. Bengalis should crush any remnants of hindu culture and put them in their place.

They will fail. Islam and BD is intricately linked. BJP lacks understanding..... bengali language based identity does not trump BDs islamic identity. West bengal and BD are not the same. BD is comfortably and confidently Muslim first, there is zero need to reinforce the point.

For BD to progress internal stability is needed and religious chauvinism helps no one. There is absolutely no need go create and nurture 5th columnists.

I get the point you are making.... but if you look at it rationally a nation of 170m is too large even for a nation of billion plus to really move. Everyone needs to keep calm, let the rule of law take precedence and build an inclusive nation that allows everyone to progress together. I know such a view would seem utopian but repressing minorities is a self defeating policy. BD must maintain course.... keep the nation united, facilatate secularism that recognises the centrality of Islam in creation of BD and that enforce rule of law over the entire citizenry without fear or favour.

Hindus need to stop playing the Bengali is Hindu and vice versa card, it's because of these nerds we're verbally bullied around the world. Hinduism existed in East Bengal from the 2nd millennium and not much later Islam came through, so who takes ownership of being Bengali? Buddhists, Hindus or Muslims?
Furthermore it was because of Muslim efforts that a social/racial construct called Bengali even exists.

These Hindus are complex ridden, hateful of Muslims because their forefathers have fed them lies about being subdued, treated badly, etc. You're in a Muslim country where the people see you as citizens, as their own yet you still want to cry like a puppy.

If my people were doing distasteful things/acting up and then getting beaten up for it I'd gladly own up that we're getting beaten up because we did x,y & z.
Although I will admit, there is a section of Bangladeshi society that behave like pure vultures/animals, why the need to destroy Hindu temples and attack?

Indians like him only talk about minorities in other countries. You will find them shouting "fake news" to every incident of structured hatred towards minorities in India. He is another partisan, no human right flag bearer or a progressive.

Reacting to the recent spate of attacks against Hindus in Bangladesh, lyricist and screenwriter Javed Akhtar asked how the nation's prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, could allow such incidents to happen under her watch.

Javed Akhtar said that those who are "trying to crush a vulnerable minority are bullies, cowards and sick communalists".

He took to Twitter to express himself. He wrote, "What is happening in Bangladesh is a matter of great shame. Those who are trying to crush a vulnerable minority are bullies cowards and sick communalists. How can Sheikh Hasina, who is known for secular values, let this happen under her watch."

Earlier on Monday, Bangladeshi-Swedish writer Taslima Nasreen slammed Bangladesh Prime MinisterSheikh Hasina over the ongoing violence against the Hindu community in the country.

She wrote on Twitter, "Last night in Pirganj, Rangpur, Bangladesh. Two Hindu villages were burnt down by jihadis. Hasina was playing flute."

ANTI-HINDU VIOLENCE IN BANGLADESH

On Sunday, a group of assailants reportedly vandalised at least 66 homes and torched 20 homes of Hindus in Bangladesh over an allegedly blasphemous social media post. There were no immediate reports of casualties. The police have arrested 52 suspects in the case while the search for other suspects is underway.

Earlier this week, three people were killed in an attack on a Durga Puja pandal near Nanuar Dighi lake in Bangladesh's Cumilla. Violence had erupted after news spread on social media that the Quran was allegedly desecrated at a Durga Puja pandal.

This was followed by incidents of vandalism at temples in Chandpur’s Hajiganj, Chattogram’s Banshkhali and Cox’s Bazar's Pekua, according to reports.

On Friday last week, at least 500-strong mob vandalised an ISKCON temple in Noakhali area and attacked devotees. One devotee was allegedly killed by the mob.

SHEIKH HASINA'S WARNING

Following the spate of communal attacks, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave a stern warningon Thursday to “bad elements” who are trying to "disturb communal harmony". She promised that action will be taken against the perpetrators of communal violence in Cumilla.

India's Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) also said it is in contact with the Bangladesh government. Bangladesh has assured India that the situation is under control.
