The military hardliners, the anti-commies hardliners, spearheaded the invasion because they believed that the left wing extremist party Fretillin was considered a threat to Indonesia and to the integration of Indonesia as it may spark the secessionist movement inside the country. Meanwhile, the growing civil war between Fretillin and other political group have caused fear to the Indonesian government at that time, that the chaos could spread accross the border and affect indonesian province of NTT.
Mind if I ask why did you call East Timorese "your brother"?
Because East Timor and Macau have the similar historical background.
