What's new

Hong kong girl tries Guangzhou subway, 160KM/Per hour!!!! Is it underground high speed railway??

Subway trains just run in a city and have to make stops frequently, they don't really need to run this fast, they have to decelerate before fully accelerated.
Constant rapid acceleration and deceleration will lead to metal fatigue

NYC has style and character in its own way and it is undeniable that it is a historically relevant city. Guangzhou is a bit lesser in character although still a much more historic city just much less important and comparable to NYC in status. Guangzhou has been modernizing.

Hong Kong is the worst of the three in things like cleanness and how neat and new some things are but Hong Kong has many shiny parts too and new as well. It is also more historic and more character than Guangzhou. The three are very different and all nice cities of different status and fame.

I personally also dislike how some parts of hong kong is extremely dirty and old but it is a big messy city and Guangzhou used to have many more parts just like that until efforts to modernize. Hong Kong has its more unique style about everything though compared to Guangzhou. For Chinese cities, I prefer Hangzhou, Harbin, Suzhou or Xiamen. Even smaller cities more rural at least have their own style and character Guangzhou is like the older Shenzhen just full of modernity and that's good but different to places like Hong Kong, Hangzhou, or NYC.

I think high speed metro is part of China's plan for Mega cities.

All of China's large cities are already connected by high speed rail. And the high speed rail stations are seamlessly connected to the metro systems of these cities, which rank among the largest in the world. It's really infrastructure on another level that cannot even be imagined possible in the West.

That reminds me just watched a video from Louis Rossmann about a guy just randomly breaking windows of cars in the street.

While New York has its faults, and it does in spades, people still come here, internationally and domestically, to make it in their field. And if they don’t like it here, they can move to any state in the country that fits them.

Having met Louis myself, I can say he really is a genuinely nice guy. There are many people in New York like him, just waiting for the political system to change with the next election for a restoration of a more business and safety oriented environment. The city ebs and flows with the political changes. It’s chaotic but also somewhat responsive to the will of the people, albeit slowly and only after some crisis has forced the issue.

New York’s infrastructure doesn’t reflect the wealth being generated here, which is better seen by looking at the healthcare services (which my Chinese-American colleagues say lags behind in Mainland China). We could do with a better subway system, but spending the requisite money has to be overwhelming supported because everyone knows they will have to pay for it in their taxes.

Remember New York is a 400 year old city, with most of it in private hands.

The main problem with America's large cities is that there is a large percentage of the population who are basically sick and dysfunctional people. These people are engaged in all kinds of vices, have mental issues, are drug addicts and are extremely violent. So this is why cities like NYC is an utter hellhole. They can never be as safe or pristine as the cities in China, where 99% of the population are normal, healthy people with actual values.

This is why I voted for Biden. The Infrastructure Bill and the Reconciliation Bill should make some in roads into addressing some of these issues, but a lot of these issues are about personal responsibility. People are free to abuse themselves but I agree they need help. The issues have been left to get out of control. 2-3 generations of the slow but steady social/economic Laisse faire decay is catching up with us here in New York.

The problem is systemic. The infrastructure bill is filled with pork and it won't go anywhere. The US is utterly incapable of doing anything except wage war. I agree with you that the US is desperately in need of an infrastructure overhaul, but Trump was planning to do the same thing at the beginning of his presidency and it went nowhere. Biden might get it passed, but the bill is filled with a ton of pork that will fill the pockets of corporations and fix a few potholes. It will not be able to build the new age infrastructure that the US desperately needs to stay relevant.

Sadly I have to agree with you

It's said that US former president Clinton, when visiting Beijing decades ago, said that China can make a New York in 100 years, but US needs 5000 years to make a Beijing.

Not entirely true. High speed rail for cities much further away and they operate at much higher speed. High speed rail also have different rules. You need ID to buy a ticket.

Mega city like the Pearl River Delta. There are 11 cities that will eventually form a mega city. All the cities are nearby. The plan is to use high speed metro to integrate all 11 cities. Imagine living in DongGuan and hopping on a metro to get to Hong Kong to work. This is the next stage in China's urbanization drive. If successful, this will help drive future GDP growth.

Yes you have to buy a new ticket but they are connected to the metro.

. . . .
so its not a metro or subway - that makes sense. UK has suburuban rails which go higher than 160 kmph.
It is operating by Guangdong intercity(regional in Europe senses) railway company, a subsidiary of Guangzhou Metro but the line is a typical suburban line with large distances between stations. Some stations have passing loops for express trains. It uses typically Chinese railway 25kv AC and 8 car train sets instead of 3kv Metro style.
So it is similar to other regional lines in pear river delta region such as Dongguan-huizhou line. The only difference is this line is fully underground and investor is Guangzhou Metro.
