That will depend on whether it ends up being a 'Arnold/Stallone' style flick or one that actually tries to retain the essence of the 'actual events' it is supposedly based on.

Pakistan, unfortunately, has enough 'real' material from all the international spy games, non-state actors, fluctuating loyalties, connections etc. etc. to support Hollywood/Lollywood scripts for decades ...

True. I think Shaan will do his role justice, and if the film is catered to international tastes, it won't become a hollywood blockbuster, nor a bollywood musical.

I honestly think that the Bollywood imitations that Lollywood puts out come across as absurd - they just don't feel the same as the Bollywood stuff, probably because most Pakistanis can't engage in a 'suspension of disbelief' over the 'song and dance stuff' that is so alien to Pakistan - its easier to buy into it when its from the guys across the border, since we see them as 'culturally different' in so many ways.

If the plummeting audiences for the cheap Bollywood imitations out of Lollywood was not sign enough, hopefully the positive reviews for movies such as Bol, Khuda kay liye, Ramchand Pakistani etc. will encourage more and more individuals in the film industry to move away from Bollywood imitations.

In order to attract families to movie theaters, rid movies theaters of the negative image they have, and therefore increase audiences, I don't see how else that can be done ...

It will be good Inshallah! I'll download.. when it hits theaters or stream it online.

I think since Warner Bros, is doing all the technical work, it will benefit our industry to pick up on the procedures and tricks. Pakistan is never lacking in stories, mostly because most of ours go unheard.

Bol, was kind of bakwas though, because it had that cheap Bollywood masala in some parts of the film.

I just want to say that how humbled I am for all the support that you all have extended for our work. I thank you all from the very bottom of my heart and I thank you all on behalf of my Team WAAR. There are two things I would like to clear, which have been raised through some of the comments that I have read. No. 1: ISPR or Pakistan Armed Forces have not contributed a single penny for this project, this project was entirely funded from my own pocket and sources. The film however highlights all the sacrifices that our Armed Forces, police and other Law enforcement agencies have rendered in this war which have never been acknowledged by the world. With this film I wanted to show the world, what we are truly made off, how we fight using our very limited resources, how each and every true Pakistani holds his and her head high under fire and have capacity and capability of showing unparalleled grace under pressure. So please know this even if I had to sell my soul to make the world see my country the way I see it, a country the foundations of which has the blood of my own family in them, I would do it every day of the week and twice on sunday, In short I wanted to say I love my country and this is how I am contributing to its future. No.2: Be very, very proud of the fact that, the entire production is done by Pakistanis not even a single foreigner was involved in any aspect of the production of the feature. We had people from Hollywood who did come here and trained most of the team and in this regard it would be unfair if I do not acknowledge the contribution of Mr. Luke Rocheleau (thanks luke). Warner Brothers and any other studios shall only be involved at the distribution stage and some post production shall be done there. So its not a WB film (yet) its a Mindworks Production and MindWorks is entirely a Pakistani Company and if you cut any one in this company they will all bleed Pakistani Flag Green. Take care of your selves and this beautiful and wonderful country of ours, have a great 2012.
Yours truly.
Hassan Waqas Rana
(Executive Producer/Writer/Action Director)

The opening line is so epic, and sadly true. He says Pakistani woh kaum hain jiske marnay ka afsos kisi koi ney, Hum khud Pakistani koi bi ney.

Pakistan’s most expensive and largest film ever is all set to release on Valentine’s Day

Pakistan’s most expensive and largest film ever “Waar” is all set to release on Valentine’s Day. A multi million project of Warner Bros and Bilal Lashari is based on counter-terrorism.
Pakistani film industry is currently and seemingly in irreversible decline is a widely known fact by now, dominated as it is compared to Bollywood and Hollywood offerings.
However, recently and time to time, Pakistani experienced directors mainly TV dramas’ directors have pulled off some stunning cinematic revolution like Shoaib Mansoor’s sensitive take on Islam in the modern age, Khuda Kay Liye, was a huge success on a global
scale.
And now another good scripted and huge budgeted of approximately $8 million film is considered Pakistan largest film of all time. The cast of the film includes Shaan along with TV star Shamoon Abbasi, Ali Azmat and Meesha Shafi while the storyline is vocalized to crack the terrorism which has propelled the country towards an irrecoverable failure period.

Waiting for WAAR!

As I watched the official first look trailer of Pakistan’s most anticipated English feature film WAAR, a big ‘wow’ abruptly came out of my mouth. It’s giving an immense excitement to looking forward for a motion-picture directed by renowned Bilal Lashari and produced by Hunt Lowry and Warner Bros with an estimated whopping budget of $2,000,000. Star cast is causing for supplementary magnetism while the collaboration of Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) is adding an ample meaning to the project. It is said that the storyline has been inspired by the war on terror in Pakistan and its effect on the world but with a very stylish interpretation of it. Trailer has gone viral on the internet and receiving lot of attention due to its classic standard and exclusive conception.

If the movie is going to be released worldwide, then it would certainly prove as a good budge to handle the shattered image of Pakistan across the globe and can change the mindset of the western public about Pakistan. If we ignore all the downbeat party lines coming for a ‘Pakistan Army’s film’, picture can be seen in a win-win situation for Pakistan. It can bring in a Pakistani director on the global map, can provide opportunity to many people to get skill at the Hollywood level that will help the local industry in various ways. If the film goes triumphant internationally, it will encourage more investment in our film industry and the capital earned is likely to be invested manifold. Pakistani musicians are likely to receive epic fame.
