NEW DELHI: India has demanded an apology from Pakistani players over their celebration during the 2014 Champions trophy.

Hockey India (HI) President Narinder Batra said there could be no series against Pakistan until an apology was given.

During their Champions Trophy semi-final match against India in 2014, Pakistani players took off their jerseys in celebration. Two Pakistani players had been banned for one match by the International Hockey Federation for objectionable gestures during the celebration.

You conveniently forgot to mention that crowd hurled filthy abuses through out the match at players. Team manager tendered apology nevertheless next day. Taking off shirt is normal way of celebrations in world sports. World hockey categorically said that players reacted to utterly uncivilized behavior of the crowd which had no clue as to what sports are all about. World hockey federation nevertheless banned two players for a match. Instead of posting a picture, post the video and see how Pakistani players initially started with celebration hoping to get some appreciation from crowd for the excellent game they just played. Instead the narrow minded people hurled abuses hence two players reacted.

Before you go on uncivilized norm of removing shirts just like your hockey president said "we Indians are very dignity minded society. Removing shirt is unthinkable in Indian society", please have a look at the pictures of father of Indian nation 'Mr. Gandhi'!

Grow up, get mature, stop mixing politics and sports, learn to lose with dignity!

Sports Passion!: Hockey India slaps ban on domestic players indulging in unbecoming behavior

Unsportsmanlike behavior is apparent regardless. Just bitching because you lost a semi-final itself seems unsportsmanlike.

If India wants real revenge, it should address it's short comings and beat Pakistan. How hard can that be they lost the qualifying world cup match.

You cannot expect crowd to show sportsmanship. What would have happened if physical harm happened to your player. Sometime thinking with brain than with balls is more fruitful.

oky so ur point is Taking off shirt is normal way of celebrations in world sports. tht normal .have u seen world sports , in england football u cant believe wht words they use for opposition team , still no player shows any reaction bcos tht how they get paid. if player started abusing audience who will come to see and same way no get paid. so if u give example of celebration in world sports, u should also show how they behave towards audience

Not only should you expect a good behavior from a crowd, it carries a penalty if supporters of a team behave badly. In soccer a team can face a ban if their crowd is hostile, unruly, racist or disrespectful to other team. If it was soccer , being played on a neutral venue with same behavior of Indian crowd, Indian team could face a fine or even match bans for their fans behavior. Sports are where people learn to rise above their politics and enjoy the skill of sportsmen. If football crazy nation like Brazil can applause for Germany for the quality of their play while their home team is being thrashed in their own home on a world cup final, why can't Indian crowd show a big heart? It was just a game, a sports match, no? Did they think these hockey players attacked Mumbai or they fired mortars at LOC? People who really know the sports and its spirit, like Indian hockey players who had just lost the game in front of home crowd did not say a word! They congratulated our players, like good sportsmen. My respect to Indian hockey players.

I loved that reaction. The spectators were giving the Pakistani players abuse all game. Probably hurling racist abuse also.
