18.40 IST: A rash challenge inside the D from an Indian defender gives Pakistan a penalty corner and they score their first goal! It is India 2-1 Pakistan now!

18.37 IST: Two goals in 5 minutes for India. Meanwhile, Devender Valmiki gets a green card which means he will be out for 2 minutes!

18.36 IST: GOAL!!! India take 2-0 lead against Pakistan in the final of Asian Champions Trophy. This time it is Affan Yousuf in the 23rd minute.

18.34 IST: Talwinder misses a golden opportunity to score as his shot goes up.

18.30 IST: GOAL!!! Rupinder Pal Singh (18') scores as India go 1-0 up against Pakistan. India won a penalty corner and Rupinder finished it with perfection. Superb execution. You can't keep Rupinder away from a match.

18.28 IST: Big aerial passes have worked well for Pakistan so far in this evening.

18.27 IST: We are underway with the second quarter.

18.25 IST: Fascinating first 15 minutes of play here. Certainly, India got the better chances but failed to capitalise them. Pakistan too had their share of chances. Both teams remain goalless at the end of first quarter.

18.21 IST: CAUGHT BY SURPRISE! Indian defence was caught napping as Pakistan made a superb aerial pass. But fortunately for India, goalkeeper Chete somehow is able to make the save.

18.16 IST: India win the first penalty corner of the night but fail to convert it into a goal as Jasjeet's shot goes wide off the goal.

18.15 IST: Both the teams have started on an aggressive note. However, India have dominated Pakistan so far by keeping early possession.

18.09 IST: Here we go! No Sreejesh for India in the final. Akash Chete has replaced him.

18.04 IST: Players of both the teams have arrived on the field for the National Anthems.

17.59 IST: We are seconds away from the start of the match. So, don't go anywhere!

17.57 IST: India have the upper-hand against Pakistan going into this match. Coach Roelant Oltmans' men look more settled as an unit. India have scored 27 goals in this tournament, while Pakistan have netted just 14.

17.55 IST: India are currently ranked 6th in the world, while Pakistan are on 13th position.

17.45 IST: Interestingly, this is Malaysia's fourth Bronze medal in the Asian Champions Trophy. They have never qualified for the finals.

17.37 IST: Meanwhile, Hosts Malaysia have just defeated South Korea (1-1) 3-1 in shoot-out to win Bronze medal in Asian Champions Trophy.

17.30 IST: Here's an interesting stat: This is India and Pakistan's 167th match. India have won 54, while Pakistan have won 82 and 30 matches were drawn. Stay tuned as we bring you all the latest updates.

Congrats.

I feel that in the end it often boils down to the capabilities of the goal keeper and our goal keeper muffed the game. Allowing 3 goals is a burden you are placing on your attackers. We need to find better goal keepers if we are to stay competent in this game bcz we can't allow goals to happen. I understand the job isn't easy but expectations are high.

Anyway congrats to India. Extremely well played and haply diwali as well.

At least we get silver.

3-2 is a close match!

What I get from this is that South Asian hockey is on the rise.

Congratulations team.... A perfect Diwali gift yesterday from cricket today hockey......
I hope hockey team continues their winning streak against European rivals....

Congratulations to Indian Hockey Team, they definitely deserved to be Asian Hockey Champions.

Indian team's goal keeper was much worse, because our regular goal keeper and CAPTAIN PR Shreejesh was injured and didn't play today's match. Yet we won. @saiyan0321

It was a close match. The last Indian goal was scored in last few minutes. Very close but they should have done well. We give excuses and these guys go lax.

Its about time as well and it's good to hear. We both went from being huge legends of hockey to minnows and are trying to shake it off to rise again.
