From my mother's side one of my cousin's grand father and his brothers had businesses in East pakistan.
They were settled somewhere near kaptai dam/lake area.
One time after imposition of martial law they were requested to come to police station by the EPR/local police. They were told to bring their arms and that the EPR/local police will "protect" them.
They went to the police station. The police/muktis/EPR tortured and killed them. One of the brothers was outside and wasn't caught. He escaped and jumped into nearby river.
He then sought refuge with a childhood friend and then hid in the jungles.
A bihari who knew the family helped him escape to UAE.
He was the only survivor who then came back to Pakistan after surviving this ordeal.
My fathers family also suffered before and after the war in Ishadi district of East Pakistan. Before surrendering Pakistan army supplied Pakistanis with some 3 knot 3 rifles and some grenades to defend themselves from any mukti bahini onslaught which occurred time to time but they some kept moving to safe hideouts and with careful planning and some help from pro Pakistan bengalis they managed to escape from their through Calcutta India and then Nepal to Pakistan.
Father told me that he and his family traveled on foot constantly 3 days in heavy rain and without enough food and had to keep their faces black using mud and other stuff so they cannot be easily recognizable as non-bengalis. Its a long story how they pulled out such a risky escape, its only a miracle they all survived those harsh times Alhamdulilah not once but twice (1947 & 1971) for only one sole purpose i.e. for Pakistan.
