Hindus join Muslims in Kerala for beef party to protest Dadri lynching

I believe in the rule of law.

I also believe that a nation as big and diverse like India does not stay together by fingering one another.

But by understanding what is offensive to the other and not giving offense.

That's the voluntary bit, by choice.

Where I believe there is no free choice in is in the following of the law of the land.
Laws can be unfair and they are not absolute. Would it be fair if government make laws which limit your personal freedom of eating certain food or drinking wine because it is prohibited for follower of certain religion? Secular countries based on secular principles which give liberty to people to eat whatever they feel eating without imposing their own food habits on others. Secular state should have no role in deciding about what people should or should not eat. If India was Hindu rebublic then that would be different matter

I don seem to understand. So secularism is linked to eating beef alone? What stupidity is this?
If some muslim village gives up beef, then they are not secular?

Mind u, some people, secularism is not linked to beef.
Secularism mean state should not make any laws based on scripture of one particular

Even Halal is against secularism. Why should we make meat suitable for Muslims? Its a cruel way to kill animals too. Why should we kill a animal to please Muslim? Is it against animal rights and secularism?
So stop with all BS.

what the hell? Meat cannot be consumed without killing the animals irrespective of how you kill them and no one force you to eat meat. You are free to eat grass all your life but those who want to eat meat they should have freedom and secular state should have no role in dictating people about what they should/should not eat..

If some one wanna eat beef, they still can eat..... Only cow slaughter is banned....... There is no ban on buffalo meat consumption.....
or if they are so hellbent for protein .. they can eat earthworms ! best source of
The best place and topic to show unity of indians.. Pity you.. Cow may be your mother.. Not mine.. I eat what i like.. For me killing a cow or goat or chicken is the same.. I am from kerala and i am very proud that i live in a community with greatest religious tolerance in the whole country..
we have seen the example of tolerance in Kerala .. ranging from chopping off hands to purging of those with different political views .. so spare me the bullshit !

People live in a society not alone in wilderness.
Personal freedom / choices / rights cannot be at the expense of community responsibility
If personal freedoms are to be given the primacy then we would be repealing laws dealing with
1) Smoking in public areas
2) Driving under influence
3) Right to commit suicide
4) Ban on contraband etc etc

In that case , why don't u fight for us .
We are Brahmins , so we won't raise weapons .
You have got spunk , so u must be a Kshatriya .
Pick your weapons and fight for us .

Pen is mightier than the sword, only if you have the will and know how to use it.

Remember Chanakya never took the sword by himself but he knew how to fight.

Parasurama actually fought with weapons.

You just need to select your method to fight. Never give up hope.

it also must be noted that among the four southern states, kerala has a bigger and more enmeshed socialist presence.

Kerala also has, to put it very mildly, a more enmeshed Saudi petro dollar fueled radical Islamist presence than the other Southern states.

Sigh.

Early morning, sitting on throne, plop plop, reading Pakistani treatise on secularism.

How deliciously symbolic.

Cheers, and a stiff backed good morning, Doc

In our Constitution, there is a clear division of powers, so that the States and the Centre are required to enact and legislate within their sphere of activity and none violates its limits and tries to encroach upon the functions of the other. Regarding legislative relations, there is a threefold division of powers in the Constitution. We have followed a system in which there are two lists of legislative powers, one for the Centre and the other for the State.

The Union List which consists of 97 subjects of national interest is the largest of the three lists. Some of the important subjects included in this list are: Defence, Railways, Post and Telegraph, Income Tax, Custom Duties, etc. The Parliament has the exclusive power to enact laws on the subjects included in the Union List for the entire country. The State List consists of 66 subjects of local interest. Some of the important subjects included in this List are Trade and Commerce within the State, Police, Fisheries, Forests, Industries, etc. The State Legislatures have been empowered to make laws on the subjects included in the State List. The decision to support or prohibit cattle slaughter is within the purview of the state.

When it comes to beef, there is general consensus within the state in support of its consumption. As a result, Kerala permits the slaughter of every type of cattle. Beef is considered a staple food in Kerala. In-fact, it is an obligation of every panchayat in Kerala to provide for meat stalls.

"Since meat is a requirement of the people of the Panchayat at for their food and since it is an obligation on the part of the Panchayat to provide for meat stalls in the public markets maintained by the Panchayat and since by the present order the first respondent is interdicted from auctioning the right to vend meat in the places mentioned in Ex.P1 notice, the first respondent will take immediate steps for establishment of slaughter houses as provided under the Act and the Rules" -John Mathew v. Vechoochira Grama Panchayat - 1999 (3) KLT 243 : 1999 (2) KLJ 610 : AIR 2000 Ker. 65."

So yes. In a nation as big and diverse as India, Keralites are well within their rights to consume what they like. This is not a violation of the "law of the land" as you put it.

This is the beauty of Hindus and Hindu people who does not always think that our God is ultimate and others are just does not matter...which is a rare thing to find in other places..

If it was simple issue of miscommunication then Why two teachers are suspended by the authorities ?
Do you follow what happened that you cant judge with one news people suspended just to ease communal tention its an Christian school with muslim are minority and they suspended teachers after protest isn't it good for communal harmony

LOL.....so suspending teachers for "insulting muslims" is good for communal harmony.

While insulting Hindus by holding "beef parties" is also good for communal harmony.

Kerala Christian Logic

I am a non vegetarian. I eat chicken, mutton and fish and trust me, they are good enough for me. I have even tasted beef few times, I liked it. But stopped it due to my religious considerations.
Killing animals is a thing, cruely killing it and labelling religious senstivities is another thing. I have seen a goat killed in Halal means, and it was the most cruel way to kill it, instead of chopping it in single strike. Isnt it against secularism just for pleasing one community?

The basic point, u and rest others should understand is, secularism isnt linked to beef. Its about respecting sensitivities and living in harmony. India is a diverse country.

while i don't like the word "islamist" to be connected with reactionaries, i am the first one to recognize that kerala indeed has a gulf-funded ( directly or indirectly ) presence of the tableeghi jamaat.

however, this does not justify the presence of hindu reactionaries either ( or those christian groups who first raised the bogeyman of the "love jihadi"... all such reactionaries groups must be opposed and removed.
