You said Christmas is celebrated only in some CHRISTIAN majority states of India..But Kerala,goa or Southern Tamilnadu is not Christian majority(yes,have huge sizeable Christian population),but still celebrated by majority of the communities irrespective of their faiths there(at least putting stars,Christmas shopping etc)...
Christmas will remain as an national holiday of India for ever..You are free to bark and howl..but it remains as it is..

No one buys new clothes, nor attends the midnight mass, nor are there Christmas trees in Hindu/Muslim houses, nor is any spring cleaning done of the houses. So stop claiming things which are not true. If you think eating Cake on Christmas is equal to celebrating Christmas then of course we celebrate Christmas every day of the year when we eat cake.

Kerala has only around 20% Christians,But the biggest shopping season/festival of Kerala 'Grand Kerala Shopping festival' coincides with the Christmas-New year time...Christmas is considered like a state festival here/shopping season/outing(more a religious one)..Just visit Kerala during Christmas time...You can see Christmas stars and lights in almost each and every shops and corners(not just in some malls or in churches or Christian homes)...

Why should a Hindu need to attend a midnight mass??...I have seen a lot of Hindus lighting stars,putting Xmas trees,even participating in midnight Carols in Kerala..If you see Christmas is only for Christians,let it be..

This map shows the distribution of Hindus in the US. As you can see they represent a significant minority in the NY - NJ area. Enough to have Diwali declared a holiday. I hope Modi brigs it up the next time e is with Obama and use this as an opportunity to tell them about religious "tolerance" and how lack of it will tear US apart.

Resolution for Diwali stamp introduced in US Senate | Zee News

Washington: Two influential American lawmakers have introduced a resolution in the US Senate calling on the US Postal Service to issue a postal stamp to commemorate the festival of Diwal.


"This commemorative stamp is an important recognition of the significance of Diwali to more than three million Indian- Americans and one billion Indians worldwide," said Senator Mark Warner, Co-Chair of Senate Indian Caucus, who introduced the legislation along with Senator John Cornyn.

"A stamp commemorating Diwali is a significant and meaningful way to honor the importance of the festival of lights to so many Indian-Americans, both in Texas and across the country," Cornyn said.

The resolution has been assigned to a congressional committee that will consider it before possibly sending it to the House or Senate.

The US Postal Service has issued similar stamps for other popular religious celebrations in the US such as Christmas, Eid, Kwanzaa and Hannukah.
