PANAJI: Goa Home Minister Ravi Naik said the Sanatan Saunstha organisation was responsible for the low intensity blast in Margao town on Friday night, in which one person was killed and another critically injured.

Speaking to reporters in Margao, Naik confirmed that the vehicle in which the explosives were placed belonged to Nishad Bakhale, an alleged member of the Sanatan Saunstha, a right-wing Hindu group, which is headquartered in the temple town of Ramnathi in the Ponda region of Goa.

Bakhale has been detained for questioning by the police.

Naik said the police were conducting search operations at the group's headquarters after the blast.

The police said Malgondi Patil and Yogesh Naik, who were riding the Honda Eterno scooter when the blast occurred, were members of the group.

Patil succumbed to his injuries few hours after the blast, while Naik is in critical condition and is being operated upon at the Goa Medical College, near Panaji.

The blast took place near the Grace Church in Margao, where some effigies of Narkasur, a mythical demon, were symbolically being burnt to celebrate the victory of good over evil on the eve of Diwali.

Police superintendent Atmaram Deshpande said a red alert had been declared a few minutes after the blast and it would remain until the situation stabilises.

BTW is this some kind of suicide attack as the members of this group are Injured? or is it a poor attempt to carry out terrorism?

Two members of this Hindu fundamentalist groups were carrying explosives when the bomb went off and one of them got killed, the other is injured.

They were suppose to target a Diwali ritual which was arranged just near the area where the bomb exploded.

Two detained in connection with Margao blast

Two persons were detained today in connection with the explosion in Margao town in Goa in which a member of a right-wing Hindu group allegedly linked to Malegaon blast accused Sadhvi Pragya Singh was killed and another critically injured.

The blast took place at around 9.30 pm last night when explosives kept in a scooter went off on a busy street in the heart of the town, 30 kms from here.

Goa Home Minister Ravi Naik said police were probing the links of right-wing group Sanatan Saunstha with the blast. "The scooter which was carrying the explosives belongs to Saunstha's disciple Nishad Bakle," he said.

A man named Melgunda Patil was killed in the blast while another, identified as Yogesh Naik, is undergoing treatment at the Goa Medical College hospital. Police said both belonged to the Saunstha, which is allegedly linked to Pragya Singh.

The Sanatan Saunstha headquarters at Ramnathi in Ponda, 20 kms from Margao, was raided last night following the blast and two persons have been detained from that town in the wee hours of the day, police said. Further details about the detained persons were still awaited.

The blast, which occurred a few metres away from the site of 'Narkasur' effigy competition, a ritual held on the eve of Diwali, gutted three vehicles.

Police have also found a bag containing a watch and an electric circuit about 20 kms from the explosion site.

And the difference between Indian claims of Pakistani involvement in terrorist activities and Pakistani counter-claims is that Indian claims are backed by proof, most of the times. The governments of several countries, including US, UK and even Poland, have recognized the involvement of Pakistani state agents in terrorist activities either directly or indirectly. But till date... Pakistan is the only country which has pointed finger at India regarding terrorism.

New Delhi: Prime accused in Malegaon bomb blast case Lt Col P S Purohit was also directly involved with 2007’s twin Samjhauta Express blasts that killed 68 people and injured 50, Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) of Maharashtra Police told a Nashik Court on Saturday.


ATS alleged Purohit handed Army RDX from a consignment entrusted to him to one 'Bhagwan', who used it to carry out the Samjhauta Express blasts.


The Samjhauta Express — an amity train that runs between India and Pakistan — had many Pakistani visitors on board when the bombs went off.


Of the 68 who died, 42 were Pakistani. The blasts were triggered by low-intensity explosives which were accompanied by inflammable material.


Three unexploded suitcase bombs were later recovered from the train.

The army officer, who is alleged to have trained the other accused in handling explosives and procuring RDX for the September 29 blast in Malegaon, was presented to the court after his police custody period expired.

ATS alleged that Purohit is a recruit of Swami Amritanand Dwivedi alias Dayanand Pandey who they claim masterminded the Malegaon blast. The ATS says that Purohit organised RDX for that terror attack too.


Purohit has admitted that he met Sadhvi Pragya Thakur — the other key accused in the blast case — through the Swami.


Narco-analysis on Purohit has revealed that he had been tasked by Army Intelligence to gather information on SIMI.


The court remanded Purohit to further police custody till November 18 in the Malegaon blast case.


SUPPORT FOR PUROHIT

Meanwhile, nearly 350 volunteers of an organisation called Hindu Rashtra Sena were rounded up by the police after they demonstrated in front of a court in support of Purohit.

The activists, holding saffron flags and shouting slogans had arrived here from Mumbai to express solidarity with the accused, sources in the little known Hindu Rashtra Sena said.

Activists of the Shiv Sena and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), who had staged demonstrations in front of the court when accused Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur was brought before it, did not turn up this time.

Six people were killed in the low-intensity blast in the Maharashtra town of Malegaon on the night of September 29.

Mumbai, Jan 20 (IANS) The mastermind behind the Malegaon blast is serving Indian Army officer Lt. Col. Prasad S. Purohit whose aim was to establish a “Hindu nation” by seeking the help of Israel, a high-ranking police official said here Tuesday.”He wanted to seek the help of Israel to further his cause since he felt that the Indian constitution was not enough to tackle what was happening in the country,” Mumbai Police’s Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) chief K.P. Raghuvanshi told reporters.

His comments before the media came after the ATS wrapped up the probe into the Malegaon blast which killed six people Sep 29 last year. The investigating agency filed a 5,250-plus page charge sheet against the 11 main accused under the Special Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA).

The charge sheet, with over 400 witnesses, also names three wanted suspects as “absconders”.

Raghuvanshi said of the 11 persons arrested so far, the five key players includsed: Purohit, a former Military Intelligence (MI) official, the mastermind who founded Abhinav Bharat; Sadhvi Pragnya Singh Thakur alias Purnachetananadagiri, who mobilised the foot-soldiers; the motivator of the conspiracy Dayanand Pandey alias Sudhakar Udhavbhan Dhardiwedi alias Amritanandadev Teerth, who is self-proclaimed ‘Shankaracharya’ (top religious head).

Aiding them was the low-profile arms collector Rakesh Dhawade who helped organise the training aspects for carrying out the blasts and Ajay Rahirkar, the fund-raiser for the terror attack.

The ATS chief said RDX was procured when Purohit was serving in Jammu and Kashmir. It was later kept in Pune.

“This followed a series of conspiracy meetings for carrying out the blast, in places like Faridabad, Ujjain, Bhopal and Pune,” Raghuvanshi said.

The Abhinav Bharat managed to garner over Rs. 2.1 million for the terror attacks and the ATS has also questioned some of the donors to the cause.

To a query whether the group planned to carry out more blasts in Muslim-dominated pockets in the country, Raghuvanshi replied in the negative.

“So far we do not have any such evidence. Soon after the Malegaon blast, they came on our radar and they did not get an opportunity to regroup,” he said.
