SHIMLA: China hysteric Himachal Pradesh government on Wednesday was put in the dock for misleading the media and raising the needle of suspicion towards the neighbouring country on the identities of the arrested foreign nationals based on false information, which could be the threat to a stable India-China relations.

Without concerns about accuracy of the news, a large chunk of the Indian media, engaged itself in a rather serious bout of "China-bashing" all till mid-day.

Eight foreigners nabbed in Chauntra in Mandi district in the Northern state of Himachal Pradesh are not Chinese but Taiwanese nationals, who were misidentified by the police and the state machinery.

“All these arrested foreign nationals are Taiwanese not Chinese as informed in earlier. The police officials misidentified them as in their visa Republic of China was written, which meant Taiwan instead China. This is how all this wrong information developed,” said S.R.Mardi, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP).

The ADGP said that these foreigners with Taiwanese visas are being investigated for their illegal stay and working besides other angles.

All these 8 Taiwanese nationals have been sent on 3 days police remand by the local Court in Jogindernagar.

The Chief Minister P.K.Dhumal made “China Bashing” in his morning version to the media on this incident calling these foreign nationals Chinese and blaming Central government for not to act as the state government has been warning about Chinese activities.

“Chinese nationals are penetrating the state in the garb of Tibetans, some of them could be spies, who are posing threat to the security of the country. Centre government must exercise utmost caution, be alert and awake about Chinese activities inside the state and along the border,” said the Chief Minister.

“Our police arrested 8 Chinese nationals with visas, cash including foreign currency and SIM cards, who were staying in Chuantra village in Mandi district. There number could be high as some of them might have left earlier. It’s too early to say anything about them or calling them spies as investigations were going on,” Dhumal added.

Repeating his agenda of building railway network in Himachal, Dhumal again emphasized in the morning that the Centre government should built Bilaspur-Manali-Kelong rail line keeping in view the Chinese development on the border of the state besides having other communications and basic land and air strategic infrastructure developed.

But in the after noon when their true identity was disclosed on the basis of visa, Dhumal took u-turn blaming media for being in hurry, which asks for information before investigation are over.

In the morning, the Director General of the police, D.S. Manhas said ,”We were getting intelligence inputs on their activities for the last four months and arrested these 8 Chinese nationals on Tuesday as they were staying and working there illegally. We are investigating the matter keeping all angles in mind including spying. Dalia Lama’s security point is also being looked into.”

The DGP too told the media with Chinese identity in his mind till mid-day but in the afternoon he got the right information.

Nogdup Dorjee, secretary of department of Security of Tibetan government in exile has said, “As far as we got the information eight so called Chinese nationals are actually Taiwanese and they came on tourist visa to India and I believe they are supporter and disciple of that Rinpoche who is constructing a monastery in Bir Chauntra. During a police raid into the constructed monastery they have apprehended eight Taiwanese people but its being reported in media that they are Chinese but actually they are not Chinese, they are from Taiwan. And as far as I know they should have followed the government of India’s rule to report to the nearest FRO within two weeks but it seems that they have not done so which is violation of the law.”
The Tibetan exile government too is ruling out the Chinese angle behind this incident.

Like hysteric BJP state government, the hawkish national media too was showing hysteria in its reporting, which was based on groundless information.

Diplomatic relations between two countries is a Central government subject. Both state government and media growing hysteric about it on the groundless information could jeopardize the ties between two neighboring nations.

China is India's largest trading partner, with two-way trade volumes crossing $74bn in 2011.

The two countries have been trying to negotiate a solution to their decades-old boundary dispute, a process which shows few signs of reaching fruition anytime soon.

There hasn't been a single fatality in skirmishes along the undefined India-China boundary since 1967, but the memories of the crushing defeat inflicted by the Chinese on India in the 1962 war have not faded from the minds of some Indians.

In a sense, the ghost of 1962 also has not been exorcised from the memories of a certain narrow, but influential, category of hawkish politicians, retired generals and diplomats, who still harbour ambitions of "giving it back to the Chinese".

Two nuclear power nations, India and China cannot afford to go into a war as has been foreseen by some hawkish narrow-minded leaders. These two rising powers of Asia will do good to each other if they do not fall prey to nefarious designs of the Western world, who could not digest the rise and dominance of the world by the Asian traditions and the civilizations.

Typical Indians. Always screaming about Chinese spies without any facts or evidence.

Like when they arrested three Chinese people for spying a few months ago, but the Indian government was forced to release them due to lack of evidence.

I don't know why any Chinese person would ever want to visit a country without toilets in the first place.

Right. When Wen Jibao came visiting he had to wear diapers :P

Congratulations Indians, you arrested eight Taiwanese nationals, and accused them of being PRC spies.

Talk about a diplomatic victory, you pissed off both at the same time.

Right. When Wen Jibao came visiting he had to wear diapers :P

You have to build toilets for foreign dignitaries, remember the Commonwealth games?

Yes. I do remember the games. There were no toilets at all in athletes housing. They all had to wear diapers.

What is it with Indians and the refusal to use any facts?

Even an Indian minister stood up in front of Parliament and said that "36% of NASA employees are Indians!"

When in fact it was entirely wrong, and sourced from a hoax email.

India rising in US: Govt falls victim to net hoax - Times Of India

WASHINGTON: It's an Internet myth that has taken on a life of its own. No matter how often you slay this phony legend, it keeps popping up again like some hydra-headed beast.

But on Monday, the Indian government itself consecrated the oft-circulated fiction as fact in Parliament, possibly laying itself open to a breach of privilege. By relaying to Rajya Sabha members (as reported in The Times of India) a host of unsubstantiated and inflated figures about Indian professionals in US, the government also made a laughing stock of itself.

The figures provided by the Minister of State for Human Resource Development Purandeshwari included claims that 38 per cent of doctors in US are Indians, as are 36 per cent of NASA scientists and 34 per cent of Microsoft employees.

There is no survey that establishes these numbers, and absent a government clarification, it appears that the figures come from a shop-worn Internet chain mail that has been in circulation for many years. Spam has finally found its way into the Indian parliament dressed up as fact.

Attempts by this correspondent over the years to authenticate the figures have shown that it is exaggerated, and even false. Both Microsoft and NASA say they don't keep an ethnic headcount.

Then of course you have the Indian government boasting only a few months ago, that India's economy would "grow at 9.5% for the next half-decade." And when the facts came in, it was only 5.3%.

that is a reflection of how low the quality of indian goverment in display. indians are out of their minds more so now than ever when they are frustrated by economic and social cancers and so they'll take every tiniest opportunity to vent it out on China!

dont know.. may be to eat stray dogs.. :bad:

even if some dog eating franatics who want to have a taste of the cannine meat overseas, they'll go to nearby south korea why spending a lot more money to have rabies contaminated meat especially during or after the monsoon season when thousands of indian stray dogs infected with rabies are running wild everywhere looking for their bites!

typical low iq indians!

and for the Taiwanese who were caught in this espionage parody, with the rest of the world which is offering a lot cleaner, safer and civilised and no less in scenic sites than india, why should they spend the money in the world to buy sufferings?

There is nothing called Taiwanese nationals, Indian govt supports One China policy.. So stop the drama, they were Chinese nationals. Also with 30 lakhs rupees, 3000 USD, International Debit cards, Chinese Sims only dumbos will work as Masons in one of the tiny village of HP and that too will continue to do so after Visa expiry

Those 8 spies need to be put on Third degree remand and one new truth will come out every passing moment..

Eight Taiwanese nationals arrested in HP, could be Chinese spies

I wish more such Chinese are caught in India.. Dalai Lama is very important to us.. :D

wooosh!! And here I was thinking that Chinese considered Taiwan as their territory and the people as their own. Guess I was wrong!!! No 'Han" Chinese here wants to claim those arrested Taiwanese as their own?

As for toilets, I guess they come here to experience the "open" Indian society as opposed to the oppressed, 'unventilated' suffocating experience of Chinese toilets (read CPC loving new Taiwanese govt.)!! - pun intended.

The HP government supports the one China policy I guess. So technically they are correct :)

Right. When Wen Jibao came visiting he had to wear diapers :P

yeah Wen's confidant told us that Wen was honoured to have the last diaper in the house when Singh who sat next to him was leaking all night uncontrollably thanks to the strong curry which helped dispell the smell enormously. Singh apologised after the dinner to Wen saying " sorry mate, we have a tight budget"!
