Himachal CM Dhumal warns of Chinese threat after air intrusion

SHIMLA:Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal hit out at China after two Chinese helicopters reportedly sneaked into Indian airspace.He said he had been warning the central government about Chinese intentions for a long time.

"This is warning signal and the Indian government is conveniently ignoring it. If such situation continues, it could land the country into serious trouble," Dhumal said.

The issue was raised by legislator Ram Lal Markandey, who, citing media reports, said the helicopters were spotted by the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) March 16 at Kaurik, close to the international border in the Spiti Valley."Sometime it's (China) violating the airspace and sometime objecting to road constructions in Leh (in Jammu and Kashmir). It has built ultra-modern airfields in Tibet and extended rail network up to the Tibet border.

"We could not perceive the Chinese threat in 1962 as we were enamoured by 'Hindi-Chini Bhai Bhai' (Indians, Chinese are brothers). Now the signals are very clear... We must take these seriously," said Dhumal.The chief minister also accused China of perpetually complaining about everything India did.""The visit of Prime Minister (Manmohan Singh) to Arunachal Pradesh and the movement of the Dalai Lama within India irks China," he said.

Dhumal said there have been reports of China strengthening its infrastructure, and it had also installed missiles in Tibet that can target any Indian city."I have apprised the government in this regard a number of times and requested them to strengthen the infrastructure along the border areas.

"I have met the prime minister three-four times (asking him) to take necessary measures to safeguard the state," Dhumal said.The chief minister also said that at times, Chinese aircraft enter Indian airspace from one side and land in Pakistan."It is a serious issue and needs the central government's attention."

He said the government has allocated a piece of land to the Indian Air Force (IAF) for installing a radar. Markandey, quoting media reports, said the latest intrusion at Kaurik, some 330 km from state capital Shimla, was the second of its kind in four months.

1. So are u saying that china is not a threat and a peace loving nation and we should disband army????????

2. For ur info we don't have any boundary dispute with china in Himanchal pradesh and chinese should have no business there.

The boundaries are well marked and the map recognizes by china-India.

3. Its not about air violation only china regularly violates both air and land boundaries. They even harass Indian villagers in that region.

4. The problem is old leader a weak congress prime minister manmohan singh he always rushes the matter under carpet.

now u r putting words in my mouth i have nt said china is not a threat and a peace loving nation , but the thread title sends
wrong signal that it is just after air intrusion china has become threat .But infact china has constantly been a threat from 1962
so whats new thing in it just after an air intrusion .Well indian Su 30 mki had also violated Chinese airspace earliear .

Yes it is a serious issue but try to understand indian su 30 mki had also entered their space for reconnaisance but they didnt shoot
them but infact they tried to scrammble jet to intercept it but by that time IAF jets returned to indian airspace.
Yes if india wants it could intercept it with SAM but u should know the after effects of that step & this UPA goverment would
take that step i doubt

taking a look at Himachali terrain bordering Tibet ... its almost impossible for even infantry to move for assault ... forget Armour ...
most probably these choppers got confused with navigation ... and Indian Air Defense batteries did a good job not responding ...
it will be good for both countries not to escalate more tension ... War should be last resort

10X is an understatement ... with heavily bunkered positions fully covered by SAM batteries ... even 100X will be not fare...
and Indian forces are building defensive positions on our Eastern border since 62'... i would love to see Chinese invading Indian positions in heavy strength ... there goes CCP and the china as we know it today ..

We need to ensure this government's replacement comes by 2014 through hook or crook. I don't care even if it is Modi and Kalam in a dictatorial role. But this government has to be replaced with someone who can repulse and retaliate attacks and encroachments.
