Hijacked BD Ship in Somalia

I think, BD will go for a negotiated release of the sailors and ship. People's lives are at stake here. Somalia is too far away from us. A commando style operation may not be feasible. This is what the newspapers are saying. However, no one really knows what is going on behind the scene.

But there are many nations here who will be ready to help you guys starting from China to India to Pakistan if you need help in this case. Everyone is having problems because of this. Because if BD had a negotiated solution then there wont be any gurantee that they wont do it again.

These pirates must be treated soon.Their nuisance is off the limit now.
They are very dangerous for merchant ships and oil tankers.

No commando operation possible..They will not hesitate in killing the sailors..Best option is to negotiate..

Pirates yet to claim ransom
Chittagong, Dec 12 (bdnews24.com) - Owner of the hijacked ship has said that the pirates have not demanded ransom yet.
Mohammed Shahjahan, managing director of Brave Royal Shipping Management Limited that owns the ship, MV Jahan Moni, told a media briefing on Sunday that the pirates contacted them from Somalia and confirmed the safety of all 25 Bangladeshi seamen on board.
He said the pirates put him through to captain Farid Ahmed, chief engineer Matiul Mawla and his wife Roksana Guljar on telephone. They talked twice, at 2:30pm and at 7pm, he added.
Referring to the conversation with the captain, he said there were 25 pirates on board.
Shahjahan, also the chairman of Kabir Group that owns the company, said all necessary steps will be taken to ensure the release of the sailors as soon as possible and at any cost.
Manager of the company Meherul Karim said the pirate who contacted them wanted to know of the owner's thoughts.
He said all the Bangladeshis were confined in a single room on the ship's bridge.
The Somali pirates hijacked the ship from the Arabian Sea off the coast of Cochin around 3:45pm on Dec 5 and took it to Garad village in Somalia's coast around 1:30am on Saturday. Twenty-five Bangladeshi sailors and the wife of one sailor were on board.
"Its position was unchanged until Sunday noon," marine superintendent of the company Captain Mohammad Golam Mostafa said.
It was carrying 43,150 tonnes of nickel and was scheduled to go to Greece from Indonesia via Suez Canal.
Foreign minister Dipu Moni and shipping minister Shajahan Khan on Dec 7 said the government started negotiations with the Somali pirates to free the ship and its sailors.
"We'll have to wait until the ship reaches the shore," Moni had said.

Indian ocean is not the size of your back yard and Indian navy is not the only one which is operating in Indian ocean ....

1) Why should indian Navy do something about a BD ship? did the BD ask for help explicitly?
2) What is the proof the pirates change the name of the ship to "POTC"? they would obviously make sure they are "hidden"
3) In Fact, this should be a right place for a co-ordinated attack on the Somalian pirates from Pak and BD. (Maybe India but am sure BD does not want this indian influence).
On one side you do not want India to even get close to you, on the other, you want them to protect your ships!
Anyways, I think there should be NO NEGOTIATIONS with any terrorists. Once your start negotiating, these things will happen again and again. of course the lives of people are in danger! but by negotiating you are increasing that risk to everyone else.
However, if this was the US, I would prefer the "brute force" route. Since it is BD, It should decide if it wants help or go with negotiations for now but prepare to give a fitting reply next time.

These pirates shoot at the ships and then threaten it with RPGs. The captain can't possible outrun these pirates speed boats for too long. The ships are not allowed to carry weapons under International Maritime laws.
