SC panel asks Moga DC for report on water shortage in Dalit habitation - Hindustan Times
Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission has taken a serious view of the non-availability of drinking water supply to slums inhabited by the Dalit at Lopon village in Moga district.
Taking stock of the news appearing in a local daily, the commission directed the Moga deputy commissioner on Wednesday to make on-the-spot enquiry into the inadequate drinking water supply to the slum-dwellers.
It also directed the district commissioner to take up the matter with the sanitation department and report back within one week, Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission member Dalip Pandhi said on Thursday.
According to Pandhi, even the installations of a 'Reverse Osmosis water plants' were of no use to Dalits as the slums are on the outskirts of the villages.
The action comes in the wake of the social welfare department being pulled up for not providing details regarding issuing of 'Doom' (Muslim scheduled castes certificates) in the state.
Pandhi said only a few days ago, the commission had rapped the social welfare department for not providing details of the total number of SC certificates given to Muslims in the state except for Ludhiana where 31 certificates were provided.

Ramdev to Muslims: What your maulanas cant do, a baba will - Indian Express
Reaching out to the Muslim community for the first time ever, Baba Ramdev Saturday promised to include their grievances in his forthcoming rallies.
“If your maulanas cannot raise your voice,” he said, “a baba will do it for you.”
Speaking at a conference organised by the All India United Muslim Morcha at the India Islamic Cultural Centre here, the yoga guru who is identified with the saffron camp extended support to the demand to extend Scheduled Caste quota to backward class Muslims, and said he would seek greater representation for Muslims in government.
“People say that since I am a yoga guru and wear saffron, I do not believe in your cause. I ask them to come to Patanjali Yogpeeth, where 3,000 Muslims work for me. There is no Hindu-Muslim differentiation there. In government representation too, the practice should be like this. Politicians have divided us and we must not let that happen,” Ramdev said.
