The deal is slow due to backing out of Dassault over the terms and conditions set. The new government is all set to get Rafale but Dassault has been pushing for this.

Majority stakes are between Germany and UK. Also Spain has come forward as a willing partner to India and doesn't have any hostilities against India in any form.

EF was perceived to be a good A2A bird but its development pathway now indicates good gain in A2G capability. The CFTs add incredible performance in range and new developments/Plans adds sharp teeth to A2G role. @sancho would be able to validate my statement on this.

In terms of news there are only few limited possibilities
1. EF deal could happen if MMRCA is scrapped and a G2G deal happens. Chances are limited atm but if the rumoured package is further improved then there is always a chance
2. This information which is a bit old (3-6 months) is now reheated in different news item as Su30 MKI fallback plan by DM Parrikar is becoming weak due to low availability of MKI fleet. So another shot to increase pressure
3. The Indian PM visit needs to put more pressure on french side and hence all these reports (MKI/EF Cost etc) all in order to keep up pressure and India negotiating a better deal

Actually the hectic negotiations by French and too many contradictory articles (su35 , 30 MKI etc) points that deal will be closed one way or other in a very short time. Probably we will see rafale in case the joint liabilities matrix is worked out in a manner which convinces MOD along with a positive report by CNC. Both these will decide MMRCA. In no manner cross advertisements will work.

BTW in May 2015 France may either hand over Mistral Ships to Russia or return money too as per the contract. And then Russians cant say "unreliable partners" to french side anymore and thus narrow down their sales pitches to just platform on offer.

So then the Su35 (as already procured by china) the air superiority bird will need to cut through IAF brass to accept it even if the rumoured 5G Stealth version is offered.

So then even if EF consortium offers a good deal one way or other MMRCA will come to a conclusion as specified by DM that we cant wait forever for the decision and french side needs to say whether they can do it or not.

It was designed mainly as an A2A fighter and that's the main difference to Rafale, but multi role fighters with the right addition of weapons and systems will be very good in both roles today. It already is A2G capable with 250 and 500Kg LGBs, but the crucial additions are Storm Shadow, Brimstone and SPEAR 3, that will be integrated to replace Tornados. The earlier 2 are already under integration and can be available at the same time we would get Rafales, by 2018. The latter is aimed on 2019/20, to replace SEAD capable Tornados. With these additions, alongside the planned sensor / avionics upgrades, the EF will be fully A2G capable and not only supass the Tornado in capability, but also the Rafale in CAS or SEAD and that is impressive!
The design flaws of the EF (load configs aimed on A2A mainly), will remain an issue till the CFTs will come, but that only will be an issue fir long range or heavy attacks.

If France excerts toomuch pressure and blackmailing techniques on India, then France may crawl to the 5th or 6th position SCORPENE submarines are crawling after so many years till now they have not materialized and the maitri project has failed ,i dont see india selecting TYPHOON as it a joint production of many EU countries if even one country has some issue with india its spare parts and support system will be stopped and if any one country wants to blackmail India the entire TYPHOON fleet will be grounded so TYPHOON has come and gone it will be Rafael or any Russian planes
