China's high-speed rail was recently used to transfer more than 1,000 officers of the People's Armed Police from Shanghai to northern China according to the military-run People's Liberation Army Daily.
The PLA Daily said thousands of soldiers completed boarding on train number G216 in just five minutes. Under close coordination with the railway military representative office at Shanghai train station, this deployment was also launched to test the force projection capability of the People's Armed Police. They eventually arrived at their new base in northern China, nearly 1,300 kilometers away, on schedule.
The report from the PLA Daily stated that all soldiers were guided to their seats within the train by the station staff. On the train, they were all provided with food and water as well. Lin Yuping, the military traffic head of the Nanjing Military Region told the PLA Daily that this deployment has proven again that high-speed rail is capable of being mobilized for military transportation.
