High chance of Bangladesh sinking under rising sea levels

I think it's a good opportunity to make good amount of money.
Yeah....good opportunity for both bal and bnp politicians to pocket this amount....no penny will be spent in actual scene :taz: .

Hasina should play the global warming card and seek money from the developed world, I think she already has.

Hope hasina gets the money within her tenure so that she and her disciples' hunger gets filled with that amount ;).

The earth has been these periods all throughout its history. In the 60s it was thought that the earth was cooling and now its warming, the fact is this global warming crap is nothing but a liberal propaganda to stop developing nations from growing. These polar ice melting theories are nothing but a guessing game.

Earth's Polar Ice Melting Less Than Thought - US News and World Report

agree with you. without any man made global warming, earth faced many I've ages and melt down. The only problem of pollution is that it adversely affect health.

That was not permanent land, most probably it is gone due to earthquake or Tsunami, not water level rising....

Sorry...it's still there...plz try with google maps, it distinctly shows water and land...South Talpatti is visible there.

That is true, I try to explain that even though I don't think we can stop the earth's natural climate cycles, doesn't mean I don't think we need to take care of the environment, it is a quality of life issue.

Your are right, rather more and more land have been rising from Bay of Bengal. And i've read in a Bangla newspaper that within 10 years the total area of the new found land would be 1/5 of present day Bangladesh's.I've also read govt. is gonna make some huge Dam to reclaim more land from the BoB.

Old news but worth reading....

Bangladesh to reclaim 600 sq km land from Bay of Bengal - People's Daily Online

Bangladesh already got 2000 sq km of which 1200 sq is solid at this moment...Netherlands is helping BD in dam tech.

It is not a guessing game, ice IS melting. The thing is, it is not news. My sister lives in Green Bay, 10,000 years ago it was covered in ice 2 miles thick. What happened? It melted! My problem is with people who think they can freeze the earth in a snap-shot of how it is now in the face of 100's of millions of years of climate variation and continent drift by chaining themselves to trees and hugging a bunny. ( I think climatatic scientist encourage this to get a chunk of that sweet funding that used to go to other branches like physics, now they are "sexy" too)
What's with you & the rest of the avg American ? They always downplay/denounce anything related to Global warming ! The fact is never in the history of the earth has there been a surge in the emission of greenhouse gases(not just CO[SUB]2[/SUB]) nor has any other race impacted the geology of the earth as humans have ! Denial is the first problem that most of the West(mainly US) faces in tackling this menace & its a universally accepted fact that the sea levels will rise by an ever increasing pace unless we tackle this issue head on !

.
You do know the "normal" (as in what state has been most prevalent) state of earth is ice-free? Have you taken any geology courses, or just bleat the party line?

(sea levels rise? Oh no! this has never happened! we will all die! You do know the sea level was aprox. 300 feet lower 12,000 years ago? The Siberian land bridge is gone? Britain is now and island because of it? What type of SUV's were the cro-maggnons driving?)

Since the recorded history of human civilization(~5K yrs) the current change in climate has been the most dramatic one ! Now don't argue just for the sake of it like the dinos were probably extinct due to massive volcanic eruptions(according to one theory) releasing unimaginable amounts of greenhouse gases millions of yrs ago that alongwith the ashcloud triggered a massive cool down of the earth's atmosphere totally wiping them out. What happened aeons ago is anecdotal evidence & you simply cannot falsify the hard facts that greenhouse gases cause global warming(acidify the oceans as well) the biggest contributor in this facade are fossil fuels & when you allege that scientists are trying to get funding wouldn't you agree the multi trillion dollar oil & gas industry(that stands to lose the most in this debate) is trying to save its arse instead by undermining anything green ?
