If you really think that American and Delta are good.....then i am sorry, i cannot take your words for anything that you wrote before that.

Airlines in the USA are the most crap i have traveled on. Even LCC in Europe beat them.

I said on NY- London route . Not domestic flights. Beside that , delta made the most money in terms of profit than any other airline in the world. I am sure it's not that crappy then. I was recently on American from NY to London and it was good.

Virgin Australian is an regional airline with limited international route, it is in the list but not Virgin Atlantic, the parental airlines??

In term of plane, flight service and crew Virgin Atlantic is miles ahead of Virgin Australia,,,

Qatar Airways was just named the Best Airline in the World for 2015 by leading aviation-consumer website Skytrax.

The Gulf-based carrier also took home gold for best airline in the Middle East and best business-class seat.
The awards are based on votes by 18.9 million passengers across 110 countries, who judge airlines on everything from food to friendliness.

I've done both Qatar and SIA first class as well as economy - Qatar absolutely deserves the first place and SIA the second. British Airways surprisingly has been under performing the past several years - they used to be very good.

Emirates is not bad either

I already told you that alcohol can be purchased in Qatar. Secondly there is nothing called "Wahhabi" to begin with. It's just a derogatory word for Sunni Muslims that follow the Hanbali madhhab. In KSA only about 1/3 of all Muslims follow that madahib. I personally follow the Shafi'i madhhab which is the most popular one in Hijaz. In KSA you can find every Muslim sect indigenously unlike any other Muslim country that I can think of. Shafi'i, Maliki, Hanafi, Hanbali, Zaydi, Ismaili, Twelver etc.

Alcohol is illegal in KSA though.

Qatar has a lot of work to do on this front. For the sake of the workers (it's still a minority mind you) and for their reputation. It's just that so much is going on constantly and money being the main factor alongside contracts (that often cannot be breached) that poor people who have no strong supportive network behind them suffer. Be they from Nepal, remaining South Asian countries, African ones or the poorer Arab countries.

Qatar should look towards other GCC states such as Kuwait, Oman, UAE and also KSA (yes) and see how they have improved on this field and are constantly improving although there is much more work to be done.

But one cannot demonize all Qataris due to a few people who are behind this. There are many stories of ordinary Qataris who do a lot good for the poorest and most vulnerable migrants too but you never hear that in the Western media because it's not interesting.



Every person that is knowledgeable about the aviation sector knows that Qatar Airways is a leading airline. Qatar Airways does not need a survey or a consulting firm to confirm that.

One just have to look at their inventory, standards and their number of passengers to realize this.

Personal preferences are irrelevant in this case. I had a negative experience this winter with Etihad but they remain a world class airline despite that. Dozens with Air France but it's the same story with them. Those are tiny/small complains anyway compared to what 95% of the remaining world travels with.

For me Etihad is kind of Ok when talking about their economy class. I was once on its business class and it's a whole different story. We had few bad experiences with Etihad but again not miserable. However, my did didn't like it. They gave him a really bad seat in the back. One of my cousin travelled to the U.S. After a long time on emirates A380 he said it look like I was on the bus not Airbus since the seats are tight on legroom also stiff too. I asked my dad what airline he like. He said I love the old PIA the seats were so open, you were allowed more luggage and plus you were allowed to smoke in the back

We should always be cautious about personal experiences because those airlines are carrying millions upon millions of passengers each month and there are bound to be somewhat negative experiences with them all from time to time. What is crucial is that it remains a minority and that it's less of a problem than on 99,9% of all the other airlines.

That's why airlines such as Qatar Airways, Ethihad, Emirates etc. are in the top.

Personally I can also advice people to travel with Oman Air. A very good airline but lesser known. Excellent service and food and affordable prices.

The fact that GCC is a major aviation hub (one of the biggest in the world) and that you can reach 67% of the world's population within a 8 hour travel-zone also plays a role here.

Does India have any well-known (internationally) airlines?

India has Air India. The quality is OK, not great. But since it is a govt airlines, it has union and other bureaucracies.
But for me, AIr India is of no use. Air India always flies to a hub in North India, then has a transfer to south Indian cities. It is much faster for me to fly non stop US to Dubai in 15 hrs, 2 hrs stopover, then 4 hrs flight to Kochi ie total 21 hrs. Air India will take at least 2 hrs more.
Mostly Air India goes like this an example : Boston->london->Delhi->Kochi. It adds one more stop.

More over Air India has limited routes from USA. South India has 4 large cities - Bangalore, Chennai, Kochi & Hyderabad, which are served by Emirates well.

Emirates flies/panning to fly from more cities in USA. They are being aggressive in USA, starting non-stop flights from Boston, planning from Atlanta. They are going to beat the hell out of US carriers, hence they are complaining. I think the European Airports are also going to take a hit because of these non stop flights. Airport fees going to reduce for them.

Fly Virgin Atlantic and then any of the US legacy carriers. Even BA tops American or Delta.
