China's western mountain border area is still too poor, abject poverty , China's national strength and wealth refuses to reach those far off regions. Those kids drink water directly from a river in winter , heart wrenching to see.

Yes, Xinjiang's ethnic division is not only between Han Chinese and Uyghurs ,the worst is actually between Uyghurs and Kazakhs

.
The place looks poor but happy enough.

More money is needed to be spent developing these regions. Look at the school room, its absolutely falling apart.

Then again, they are probably more at peace than the screaming, honking and scurrying pace of the cities.

Peace and happiness are not everything, we will always need more development, wealth, strength and knowledge to stand the test of time and walk towards salvation as family, nation and race as whole. Humans must never be like (exotic)animals in zoo.

At what cost?

These kids eat ice out of the river and smile while doing so. Wealth does not lead to happiness as my fondest memories are usually of a time when I had nothing.

I hope that the unsustainable craze to get rich will not tear the land apart and turns to mud the stream with the ice.

At any cost, only through progress we could gain truth happiness which is the new knowledge, fond memories are precious but never the reason to choose stagnative content (under whatever pretty name). Human society must be in constant evolution, and there is no such thing as "unsustainable craze". it just means there is new way to be find for correction and improvement, but never fall back.
