my eye sight were weak too i had a LASIK operation 5 years ago..and it took no more thn 15 minutes and till now i can see everything crystal clear Alhamdulilah ..and to do Aeronautics one dont need perfect eye sight..in my uni there are many aeronautics students who wear specs

LASIK Vs LASEK Laser Eye Surgery – What’s the Difference?

Many people get confused about LASIK (Laser Assisted in-situ Keratomileusis) and LASEK (Laser-assisted Epithelial Keratomileusis) laser eye surgery, but the difference, once explained is very simple. Neither procedure is “better” than the other, but rather each procedure has its place within the various needs of laser eye surgery patients. LASIK eye surgery is far more commonly recommended than LASEK eye surgery; the reasons for this are that for a small number of people, LASIK is not the optimum choice as their cornea may be of a thinner depth than is commonly seen and as the cornea is opened up during LASIK laser eye surgery, there is slightly more chance of damage occurring.

What is the Difference between LASIK and LASEK?

The procedures differ in one major fashion and that is the location of treatment; during LASIK surgery, a flap is opened up on the surface of the cornea; this is known as a “corneal flap”. Once this flap has been created then a laser is applied to the inner surfaces of the cornea and then the flap is re-situated and healing may begin. This healing is typically quite fast and a patient should be able to enjoy the benefits of their laser eye surgery within a relatively short space of time. During LASEK eye surgery, the laser is only applied to the outer of the cornea in order to correct the vision and it is for this reason that LASEK eye surgery is the most recommended option for patients’ with thinner corneas. The recovery time for LASEK laser eye surgery is not as fast as with LASIK eye surgery.

How Soon Will I Recover?

As the two procedures differ so fundamentally, so the healing process differs too. After a patient has undergone LASEK laser eye surgery, then a special contact lens must be applied to the eye in order to protect the surface of the cornea which has been disturbed by the laser, this is to prevent irritation by the eyelid and also to protect against infection. This is due to there being no protective flap present as with LASIK eye surgery and so the cornea must be covered for up to four days. The recovery time for LASIK surgery is generally much faster than it is for LASEK although successful outcome is just as common with both LASIK and LASEK laser eye surgery.

There are as many reasons for choosing one procedure over another as there are eye conditions and the best advice will always be given by a specialist who has good prior knowledge of a patient’s history and of their reasons for seeking treatment.

..after the operation i wore sunglasses for a month...but you need to be above 20 for the surgery..anyway go for LASIK its much safer thn laser you wont feel any pain...I thought they will remove my eyes and do lasers but it was nothing compared to what i was thinking..

There is no requirement for eyesight if you want to join as an aeronautical engineer
So my advice is that dont go for laser eye surgery because you dont need to!

First of all you need to get enrolled in an accredited Bachelor of Engineering, then choose Mechanical Engineering as your Major. Make sure you do really well in Fluid mechanics and Fluid dynamics, they are the core for aeronautical Engineering. Once your at this stage, you should have pretty good understanding of where to take your career from there.

But going into the Engineering field is not a decision to be taken lightly, its a very strenuous and mentally demanding course. Just because you like it, doesn't mean you are any good at it. Only you can answer this question. However after you pull through, and get to the end, the rewards are great and plentiful, you will be handsomely compensated.

Yes, they are all a subset of Mechanical Engineering. It just the experience that changes depending on which corporation you decide to work for.
