What's new

Hello there... Indian gorkha here.

.
I'm a native of Darjeeling. My family migrated to the south. Looking forward to interact with people and engage in meaningful debates.

Jai mahakali, aayo gorkhali
Hey Gurkha two questions please -

1. In UK Gurkhas are regard as 'Japanese'. Is it true most of you look like Japs?
2. Is it true Indian's and in particular Sikhs are terrified of you and your battle cry? I have been told this might be something to do with how Gurkhas decimated Sikhs in Jallianwala Bagh in 1919 under General Dyer?

And ever since a collective fear of the Gurkha lives on in the heart of most Indian's even if most don't admit it?

I really don't know that Brits call Gurkhas as 'Japanese'.

Secondly every martial race has its very own legend. I don't know whether Sikhs fear our battle cry but armies who have faced Indian gorkha soldiers do fear them.

Pardon me, because I do not have an exposure to my own culture due to the reason that my family migrated to south India and people do love us here too. Oh and I'm not in the army neither I'm a stereotypical watchman. I'm an IT guy.

Are you for real ? !!

A TT !!!

Racist remark .. looking like Japs !! Come on, one expects a higher level of intellect & education from a " TT".

A poor attempt to troll.

I've noticed it but couldn't help it. I don't want to get into a slugfest. Ignore and move on. It makes our day much more pleasant. And a TTA raising racist remarks and poking me by reminding how my ancestors participated in the genocide of fellow Indians, only to provoke is a bad thing.

But, I couldn't care for more. That's why I opted to not respond to him in anger.

I wonder if the poster is aware that the word " Jap' is considered an offensive slur , quite like Pakistanis dont like being called using the first 4 of the word Pakistani..

In 2003, the Japanese deputy ambassador to the United Nations, Yoshiyuki Motomura, protested the North Korean ambassador's use of the term in retaliation for a Japanese diplomat's use of the term "North Korea" instead of the official name, "Democratic People's Republic of Korea".

In 2011, following the term's offhand use in a March 26 article appearing in The Spectator ("white-coated Jap bloke"), the Minister of the Japanese Embassy in London protested that "most Japanese people find the word 'Japs' offensive, irrespective of the circumstances in which it is used.

Your a newbie and your welcoming @third eye who has been here since 2008?

Okay as regards 'Japs' that was inappropriate remark amd I apologize to the great Japanese nation for that comment. Considering what terms Indian's use for Pakistani's I think that was minor indiscretion.

More to the point I just was wondering as historical curiosity - did Ganga India learn to show servile respect to these magnificient Japanese looking warriors from Nepal after they had shown their mettle at Jallianwala Bagh or before? Is it possible that the massacre in Jallianwala Bagh has created some form of Stockholm Complex? Where respect and awe has escalated post the massacre of Indians by Gurkhas?
