HYDERABAD (India) – A man nearly died while taking a selfie video with a speeding train in the background in Hyderabad.

The man, who police identified as Shiva from Warangal, is seen standing right next to the railway tracks and pointing to an oncoming speeding train in the video. As the train draws up in line with him, Shiva is knocked down and the video ends with a thud as people are heard rushing towards him.

The incident occurred on Sunday near Bharat Nagar railway station on the outskirts of Hyderabad.

The disturbing video surfaced on Wednesday and was quickly shared on social media, with users describing the stunt as the “height of stupidity”.

In the video someone is heard warning the man as the train comes closer. However, Shiva ignores it and is heard saying “one minute” before being hit by the train.

Shiva sustained injuries on his head and hands. He was admitted to a private hospital where his condition was said to be stable.

“He was booked and penalised ₹500. Despite the severity of the impact in the video, he escaped largely unhurt as the locopilot applied the emergency brakes and slowed the train,” said Bharatnagar Railway Protection Inspector Sudhakar Rao.

A spokesperson for the South Central Railway also informed that train accidents involving humans had become increasingly common on the tracks due to cell phone use. The official said it amounts to trespassing on railway property which is a punishable offence.

Trains are much wider than their tracks. People are so stupid that they can't understand this basic fact. Furthermore, trains in india and Pakistan have open windows and doors while in motion which is really unheard of here in the west (may be in the older times) so people stick out their hands and throw objects which can highly dangerous for any person standing close to the track.

. .
His friends are even shouting at him to move away, can some indian translate what he replies to them?

Idiot deserves the Darwin Award.

This dude was not able to gauge the safe distance. He thought he was safe enough since he stood quite a bit from the tracks.

Very stupid act. Thankfully he is alive and not too badly hurt.
