He Was Constructing a Genocide Weapon
February 22nd, 2012 - 1:33 pm

A handful of nuclear scientists were recently assassinated in Iran, presumably by Israeli intelligence.

I have no objection to this personally, though I understand why others, such as Glenn Greenwald, do. I certainly would have a problem with this if the scientists in question were working on peaceful power generation rather than nuclear weapons. Scientists are generally outside the bounds of legitimate warfare. They aren’t soldiers and they aren’t terrorists. The overwhelming majority of scientists everywhere are civilians.

Iran’s state-run Fars News Agency just cleared up some moral ambiguity for us, however. Mostafa Ahmadi Roshan Behdast was one of those recently killed. And his wife told Fars News that “Mostafa’s ultimate goal was the annihilation of Israel.”

So he wasn’t just constructing something that could theoretically be used as a genocide weapon. He was constructing something that he wanted to use as a genocide weapon. Intent matters, not just in war, but also in the courtrooms of liberal democracies.

If the Israelis were, indeed, the ones who took him out, they were acting in self-defense. It ought to go without saying that the Israelis perceived it that way all along, but it’s worth noting that the slain scientist’s own family and government are now legitimizing that point of view.

Tell me Solomon, when U.S greatest intention was annihilation of Soviet Union, did they really want to carpet bomb whole Russia with nuclear weapons or kill every living person of Russians? No actually they want the system in charge to be annihilated.not the people.Even thinking of the fact that Iran wants to kill every single Jew in the world is stupid. We currently have largest Jewish community in ME after Israel and they have equal rights like every other Iranian. If we really wanted to kill them (God forbid),we would start with them.
Iran wants the same thing that Israel wants for Iran and we all know what that is.

Straw man fallacy, no reason to read any further.
you are a funny zionist on the forum. perhaps the only one here, im slightly amused by your liberalness. It'd be more convenient if you come out and say openly what you believe in rather than pandering around the issues concerning the the AIPAC and Israel. :P

Oh, no, FF! One of the things I try to do is to motivate Pakistanis to do their own homework rather than rely upon Americans spoon-feeding and speaking up for them. So I'm not going to answer every question or request, especially when the answers can be found elsewhere.

It's a correct analogy, not a straw man. I wonder if you even understand what the straw man fallacy is?

Your article took the statement that he wanted to annihilate Israel and concluded that this statement implied he was constructed a genocide example. Era_923 correctly showed an example of why this article's reasoning is clearly flawed.

That's bullshit and you know it.

Also, it cannot happen that the scientist himself will go and throw the nuke on Israel :disagree: Well if that is the stated policy of that country then it is a different game altogether. Killing just beacuse the scientist had his own conception of something which he was creating does not given any country the right to kill.. absurd article..

The answer is only a Wikipedia search away. Who is willing to quote and link it to show whether Birbal or Solomon2 is correct?

As always, propaganda based on out of the context words. Same article: "annihilation of the Zionist regime", "her spouse loved any resistance figure in his life who was willing to fight the Zionist regime and supported the rights of the oppressed Palestinian nation."

Regime isnt the same as the nation, its weird some people cant understand that. That redneck OP quoted not only cant comprehend that, he went with leaps of judgement from misleading what grieving widow was talking about, to wild insinuations what scientist was doing and what he intended to do.

Lets put in the perspective, US officials actually talked about using nuclear weapons against Iran (not wild insinuation, like OP does), does it means Iran can kill every US nuclear scientist and government official (since they talked about it), and it all would be good, because its self-defense? I can bet neither US nor UN would look at it as a self-defense, it would be viewed as an act of war.
