Have any of your wrote IELTS?

8 is not easy..

Yes..I know that..I don't have problem in speaking or listening..I am scoring good on reading too getting on average of 37 to 38 out of 40. My achilles heel is writing. Having used computers for typing for the last three years on my job, writing is becoming a problem.

What is MTI? I am fluent in English speaking with a soft accent.

As on writing, I seem not able to organize my thoughts as clearly as on a whitepaper as on a screen. Also spelling mistakes are creeping up a lot.

My English is really bad but i still managed to score 6.5 without any preparation. You can score good if you have better knowledge of format of IELTS and know how it work. Good practice will earn you a good score

As far as my performance on mock tests are concerned, I seem to enjoy RC and getting on average of 37 to 38 and sometimes even 40 correct answer out 40 questions. Don't know how different the mock tests would be from the original test

You attempted MOCK tests? Cool. I just had an CD attached to the book. Never knew the question pattern till a day before exams. My elder bro was expecting a 5 considering my non preparation. I must say I did fairly shock him.

But Reading let me down.. Got 6.5 in that. Rest all were 7 and 7.5. I felt so tough at it. Even during my last night stand, I never found reading difficult. People asked me to concentrate on listening. But I was in a kinds shock during my exams.

PTE is good alternative for IELTS if you haven't paid for IELTS suggest go for PTE. Following are the benefits: 1. More exam dates 2. Easier 3. Turn around result date in a week

Considering that you didn't attempt mock tests, you got a good score.

The problem with PTE is the acceptance by Universities. UK, Canada and Australia prefer IELTS while TOEFL is preferred in US.

I, too, am preparing for IELTS hoping to appear for exam in October-November. IELTS General is what I'm planning to attend. My target is 8. I am attending a coaching centre here(Cochin). classes in the evenings.
What they do is, give exercise books (around 30 or so) with the IELTS format questions for Reading and Writing. Listening sessions and Speaking sessions are separate. A Lecturer is giving classes on writing and we've to write essays every day. (Though I haven't started yet!). We've to speak with the mentor to improve the accent. I find it hard to manage time for this classes and am thinking of self studying although speaking session is helpful. Suggestions for study materials are welcome.
EDIT: What about spelling of words? Whether US and GB spellings both are accepted or we should start recollecting British English spelling?

Both American and British spelling are fine.
