Has India forgotten Irom Sharmila?

I need to ask one question... why we need to have AFSPA for so long ??? one of the friend said that cruelty is allowed to some extent .. but if u see the period of cruelty .. why we failed and still failing to maintain law and order in a state like Manipur ? why we need to have AFSPA for so long ? Manipur is one of the most literate state in India, they are not illiterate so anyone can fool them. and still we are not able to sort out the issue?? GOI just using force to control states without the wishes of majority of people ... using brutal force... One can understand that this kind of law can be for a short period of time but why we need to have that law for so long.. GOI has failed miserably...

for GOD's sake she is Indian

If you need to have army on the ground doing counter insurgency operations you will need to have AFSPA. AFSPA in itself is harmless and army is not police i.e. writing complains, arresting people, delivering justice but yes 50 years is a long time and by now it should have been sorted out

Military is not going to act like police with clubs. Military is trained to kill. You need insurgency trained personnel to deal with these issues. Spending money on infrastructure development is cheaper than military escalation.

Bluff of Generals? The problem with people like you is that you have never ever operated in a counter insurgency environment and don't know what it is like to be ambushed. Have you ever faced a volley of bullets from an AK-47 rifle? No! Because if you had, then you wouldn't be spouting such nonsense sitting in the cool climes of U.K.

So before passing judgment, put on your battle fatigues, sling a 40 kg ruck sack on your back, an AK 47 and head out into the dense jungles of the North East for a 7 day long range patrol. Then you come back and talk!

I find that people with guns are the worst perpetrators of atrocities. No one should be above the law. Why don't you place yourself in the other person's shoes. What would you do if an innocent close one was killed as a result of ineptness of someone with a gun? Wouldn't you want to person responsible be bought to book?

What is the army afraid of? If the attack has to be done in self defence, there are laws which protect them. Right now the AFSPA is intended to sheild armed personnel from legal action in case they end up hurting or killing someone even if they are just innocent bystanders. This is intolerable.

It is the people that the army and out government is answerable to not the other way around.
