Haroon Rashid: “1000 million tons of gold reservoirs found in Swat”

Karachi: Renowned Pakistani columnist and political commentator Haroon Rashid has claimed that 1000 million tons of gold reservoirs have been found in country’s northwestern area of Swat in Khyber Pakthunkhwa.
He revealed this during a talk-show hosted by female anchor Mehr Bukhari on a local television channel Dunia News on Thursday night.
While discussing countries economic grievances Rashid said, the 1000 million tons gold reservoirs were found in Swat and news would soon be heard in this regard.
Mr Rashid is believed to have close links with country’s powerful military establishment and his revelation might be linked to his sources in the Pakistan’s military that has been battling an insurgency waged by home-grown terrorists in Swat since 2008.
If the news proved to be truth and the reservoirs are explored it would be considered a great respite for Pakthoons who have in large numbers migrated to major cities of the country, seeking opportunities of employment.
Swat valley is rich of God gifted mineral resources. Most of the minerals in swat belong to family 10 in periodic table. Therefore these minerals are valuable and internationally recognized. They include Sulphides, oxides and Hydroxides, Nitrats, Carbonates and Borates, Silicates and other unclassified

The figure of 1000 million tonnes is not correct by any stretch since all the gold in the world that has ever been mined out of the earth is less than 180,000 tonnes. Though he might be talking about the copper ore reserve of the region which also has some gold in it. The ore can be speculated to be 1000 million tonnes which would translate to something like 10 million tonnes of recoverable copper and perhaps a few hundred tonnes of gold worth something like 100 billion dollars in international markets.

PS. If true it is going to be like Rico deq mine in estimated reserves. Pakistan can get rich by mining these reserves and supplying it on international markets.

Nothing new he said because in Pakistan people know that country has rich mineral resources but poor government which only used to say "what we have" but didn't do anything to bring these resources in favour of Pakistan and its people.

piece of crap..there are several reserves in pakistan of gold..point is who would extract them..???
swat has already too many precious stones yet there is noone to extract them..to home company has expertise while foreign companies are not usually allowed the Baluchistan gold case is the best example

well i was watching his program live on TV couple of days ago but he did not mention the figure of 1000 million tons i think. He just said we have found gold reserves in Swat but the government of Pakistan has not officially announced it and they will announce it in future.

1000 million tons is too much, he probably meant to say 1 million tons? even that is way too much... but who knows... lets wait until the official statement is released.

at this time oil and gold dear . but if they found more gold mines with huge quantity its will reduce the value of gold .as more as gold come to market prizes will go down that much . just think abut silver it was more expensive in past but after 80 and 90 discovery of huge silver mines its not much much cheap then before. OIL is power but sadly you can't save it re use it like gold .

at the end i must say no wealth is permanent we are here for few years just enjoy live beautiful life as you like and say bye one day to world.tons of gold can't stop us to be old or die . nothing hold value permanent dear
