Not to dampen your spirits, but you really think so? They have like 24 gold medals already. And given that Pakistan was his second choice, he might represent England in the future if given the opportunity.

Anyways, good luck to the lad.
Well technically Pakistan wasn't even his choice, we approached him. However the UK guys have very publicly banned him from boxing for them altogether.

NEW DELHI: Pakistan boxers Haroon Iqbal Khan and Muhammad Waseem Saturday reached at the semifinal stage of their respective weight categories and assured two bronze medals for the country. It is first time in Commonwealth Games history that two Pakistan boxers got place on the medals table.

Waseem beat Dunde Micah of Ghana by 4-2 in the quarterfinal of the light-flyweight category and now he will face defending champion Jafet Uutoni of Namibia in the semifinals, who beat Jason Lavigilante of Mauritius 5-0 on points. Waseem has already won three international medals before Commonwealth Games this year. He got first medal at Shaheed Benazir Bhutto International Boxing Tournament, which was held at Karachi in last January. In February, Waseem won the silver medal at South Asian Games at Dhaka, Bangladesh and in August he got his first international gold medal at Sports Acord Combat Games in Beijing. China.

Haroon, younger brother of WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan, beat Andrew Selby of Wales on points. Haroon said that he owed his Commonwealth Games flyweight semifinal spot to his older brother Amir. “He tweeted and it’s great the support he’s given me,” Haroon said after his victory. “He said ‘don’t rush in, pace yourself, this is a big thing for you’. I took his advice and it worked. The Indian crowd was unbelievable. I knew when they cheered it was a point for me. It did take a lot of pressure off me.”

The 19-year-old British-born fighter, who chose to represent Pakistan after claiming he had been snubbed by the English boxing authorities, will now clash with Indian Suranjoy Mayengbam who beat Malaysian Mohd Subrie 9-2. “My job was to come here and prove them (selectors) wrong and I have done that. My aim was to get a medal,” said the teenager. “I have seen him (Mayengbam) box before and it’s going to be tough. He is strong and has got great stamina.” Pakistan’s third boxer Nisar Khan will play his quarterfinal against Harding Keiran of Wales on Sunday (today). afp

He also said he would probably fight for Pakistan at the 2012 Olympics. ‘I won’t be turning pro and if do fight in London, it will be for Pakistan,’ said Haroon.

Next match is versus India's Suranjoy Mayengbam. Haroon himself is expecting the match to be really tough, considering the lad from India is known for having a lot of stamina.

I hope both of them get us the gold! 2 more crucial matches!

Just saw the game on TV. Suranjoy Singh defeated Haroon 9-2. Haroon really ran into a tough opponent this time. It was clear that Suranjoy was miles ahead of the Haroon in terms of technique and expereince. Hopefully Haroon will gain from this expereince and come out a better boxer. Though he couldn't reach the finals he is assured of a bronze though.

NEW DELHI, Oct 11, 2010 (AFP) - Pakistan boxer Haroon Khan on Monday said he hoped he had proved a point to England's selectors after he won a bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games.

The younger brother of Britain's Olympic silver medallist from Athens, Amir Khan, chose to represent the country of his parents' birth after claiming he had been snubbed by the English boxing authorities.

He lost his semi-final bout to India's Suranjoy Mayengbam and took bronze.

But he added: "I think I've proved my point to the selectors. There wasn't a British boxer in my category (in the semi-finals). I would love to see (the selectors) now. I should have won that medal for England."

Khan, who fought under his grandmother's name Iqbal, had a hostile reception from the Indian crowd, as the two neighbours renewed their rivalries in the ring after going head-to-head in the hockey on Sunday night.

The 19-year-old admitted that he was always in for a tough fight with the man from Manipur in northeast India and predicted his opponent would now go on to defeat Kenya's Benson Njangiru in Wednesday's final.

"My main aim was to come here and stand on that podium. I've got the bronze. I can put it next to my brother's Olympic silver," he said.

Khan said he was still aiming to compete in the London Olympics in 2012, again for Pakistan.

Haroon really should have used his height advantage better. He had better reach and balance but he allowed Suranjoy to get in close and smack him. Plus Suranjoy, like most NE boxers was lightning quick in his punches. He reminds one of Dingko Singh, another Manipuri CWG gold winner.
