Indian police patrol on the deserted streets of Srinagar, Kashmir on January 26, 2010.
The state administration in Indian-administered Kashmir has observed India's 60th Republic Day without hoisting the national flag.
Senior state officials said that hoisting the banner was seen as a "needless provocation" to the separatist elements in the area, The Times of India reported on Wednesday.
A high state of alert was in place on Tuesday at Lal Chowk, the heart of heavily guarded Srinagar and the site of celebrations.
Most people stayed indoors in response to a strike called by separatists.

sorry but in this case looks matter. these clownish looking people make india look bad. i think in next parade, army should not be featured. only air force and navy. maybe some air force guys can wear army uniform and pretend to be army while marching
And the colourful turbans have to be banned. all must wear proper topi like this :
Many NE Indian have mongoloid face... but not this one..this man looks more like a Chinese do u ppl take Chinese in Navy and Airforce in india?

Yes sometimes chinese are also taken @ 50c/hr. Does that satisfy you now?
That guy in the picture looks more Uzbek than Chinese. Will that make you happier?
And don't ask the hourly rate for Uzbeks, that is classified. Thank god you did not see the Nagas or Gurkhas. Then you would've asked: are they Korean or Japanese?
