BEIJING: Nearly half of China's super-wealthy individuals are considering leaving the country, a survey said on Monday, with most citing better overseas educational and employment opportunities for their children.

The global survey of 2,000 high net worth individuals by Barclays Wealth found that 47 percent of the wealthy Chinese who were questioned plan to move overseas within the next five years.

The Chinese semi-autonomous city of Hong Kong is their preferred destination, cited by 30 percent of respondents, followed by Canada with 23 percent, although earlier this year Ottawa closed an immigrant investor visa scheme that had been popular among wealthy Chinese.

The results show that "better educational and employment opportunities for their children is the main pull factor for Chinese high net worth individuals", according to the survey.

China has seen double-digit economic expansion in recent decades but faces mounting uncertainty over its pace of growth.

Its economic expansion has also come at great environmental cost, particularly in large cities such as Beijing and Shanghai, another factor among the country's super-wealthy in considering a move overseas.

The survey also found that a significant share of Singapore's wealthy, 23 percent, plan a move abroad in the next five years, even as the city-state remains a top destination for Hong Kong's rich

In Hong Kong 16 percent of the wealthy said they plan to move, with 44 percent of these naming Singapore as their destination. Another 31 percent anticipated going to China.

Around the world, a little over half, 57 percent, of super-rich individuals have only lived in one country, with 20 percent having lived in three or more.

The cost of swich is too high, it is not easy to establish a new business in the West when your business in China is running smoothly.

This article is nothing, but purely rubbish propaganda.

lol i hope this post made you feel good, there are sooo many Chinese giving up US greencard now days it is a trend now.
The rich people all want to live better, it is nothing new, all of the top Indian engineers and scientists left for the west and is still leaving every day.

Our central bank invest most of our reserve on Wall Street, you think we care a few rich people leave?

Well, of course you don't want to stay in China if you are super rich. If you are in China, your wealth is nothing but money in the bank, it doesn't get you more privilege and doesn't get you social connections. Heck, if you run afoul of the law, you'd be in jail just like the poor folks. What use is your wealth if you couldn't use it to stand above the law? The education for children part is even more obvious. Why does we rich folk's kids have to go through the same national test as the those poor saps?

The fact is, more and more Chinese students are finishing their degrees at famous foreign institutes and returning to serve their home country. In fact, if you look at the chart provide in the link, from 1978 to 2013, there is an almost exponentially growing number of students returning to China after they finish their degree.

Every Indian student who went to the US doesn't have any plan to go back to their own country. They just stay here by any means.

For Chinese students, more than 50% in my university return to China for BETTER opportunities.

The US just drained India's talents off, completely.

I remember couple of years ago i heard a conversation in some chatroom when a Chinese American said how he noticed where did all those Chinese students go? It's like they disappeared. The chart pretty much support that the majority of the these overseas students who received their degree return home.

A joke among my Indian colleagues: A Gujarati can do anything to go to the US, even as far as becoming PM of India.

Does this even make sense? Note that we're not talking about your ordinary, everyday, quite well-off sort of wealthy individuals, but the ones that deserve to be prefixed with a "super". Why on earth would their children need better employment opportunities? Maybe in China the upper middle-class are considered super wealthy? Or maybe it's simply not a well thought out piece of anti-China BS?

Once again the sour grapes and green eyed monsters nag at China. This is their propaganda and hypocritical mentality: Chinese travel abroad, thus, China must be bad. China has a closed door policy or bamboo curtain, thus, China must be bad. It doesn't matter what China does, it is bad.

China should take advantage of international information, global resources, and worldwide real estate. The Europeans committed genocide and slavery when they conquered and immigrated to Greenland, North America, Central America, South America, South Africa, Australia, Hawaii, etc. They also built puppet regimes across the resource rich regions of the Middle East, Latin America, Africa, etc.

The world has almost 1 billion Europeans spread across the globe. As we speak, Israel continues to wipe out Palestine with the support of Jewish diaspora around the world and with the support of Western governments, universities, and corporations, even though Jews and Westerners boast they have the world's superior morals and human rights (amongst many other questionable boasts).

The world has around 1.4 billion Chinese, but almost all of them are concentrated in "tiny" China. This is not fair by Jewish and Western standards, which are obviously hypocritical. China should build a robust Chinese diaspora around the world with excellent connections between the mainland and its international subsidiaries. If Jews and Westerners do it, why not the Chinese?

Please, those super rich of China will be tired for you let them leave China twice a month. :D

.
They wont move properties to overseas, coz high personal tax in West world.

As far as i knrw about my rish friends, their money & business still leave in China, do investment in foreign nations like buying local house. Rich Chinese do not trust white-man, they wont provide tax to west government.

They r flying-man between China and west nations, but their core business and home still inChina.

Very well said.

It is a fact that an increasing number of well-educated Chinese diaspora (even those who previously served in powerful MNCs) is returning to China -- As for US-educated young grads, their "return rate" is growing day by day. I know for fact that many small and mid-sized US universities are now desperate foreign (mostly Asian) students as the number is decreasing steadily.

Here we are talking about super rich not some ordinary NRI. Even then I am one such student with dual degrees from top universities in US who gladly returned to India. Thank you.
