BANGALORE--Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. has begun "advanced preparations" to build a facility to assemble Dassault Aviation S.A.'s AM.FR +1.23% Rafale fighter jets in India, the state-run company's chairman said Wednesday.

India is in the final stage of discussions with the French company ahead of signing a potential agreement to purchase 126 Rafale jets for its air force at an estimated cost of more than $10 billion. The agreement will have an option for India to order an additional 89 jets.

According to the tender, the first 18 planes will have be supplied in a ready-to-fly condition, while the remaining jets must be produced in India in collaboration with a local company. HAL is the only Indian company that manufactures fighter jets.

HAL has identified land in Bangalore for the assembly facility, Chairman R.K. Tyagi told The Wall Street Journal on the sidelines of the Aero India show in Bangalore.

Aero India--India's largest aerospace, defense and civil-aviation show--opened Wednesday and will run through Sunday.

You can hardly charaterise the MMRCA as being "delayed"- these things take as long as they take, for such a complex procurement there is no precedent, no set timeline- only vague guesses and speculation as to when each stage will be complete.
The VIKI and LCA had set timelines and deadlines which they overshot and surpassed- you can categorically define those has delays.

. . . . .
And i thought the MMRCA deal was about to get cancelled, and IAF will order follow on PC-7 Pilatus to maintain squadron numbers.

.
the deal with get REALized soon as hal is investing in REAL estate and the dream of rafale in indian colors won't be surREAL anymore

.
How much time France will take to deliver the first 16 jets once the deal is signed?
