Gwadar Port may be given to China

For india it will be a nightmare because indians see China as a threat, while for Pakistan China is the most trusted ally, not only seen as the most trusted ally from the GoP but also from the PoP (People of Pakistan).

Chinese Naval bases in South Asian countries will make indians piss in their pajamas.

Whatever works against india's national interest, works best for Pakistan's national interest.

:pakistan::china:

Now all pakistanis on this forum should close their eyes & say, "we never read the above ^^ post. Only Indians troll on this forum."

Discuss & evaluate the pros & cons of this move and its strategic implications. Its not necessary to drag India everywhere as & when you feel convenient.

What are you guys upto?no country will never give a permanent foreign naval base in their soil apart from few dependent countries.Only friendly countries give permission for naval ships gas and food and beverages filling thats too for a short time.
The article clearly states that China is using it for cheap transportation of gas and oil and it is also a viable option for Pakistan make the port profitable since it has never make any penny "Apart from its failure to bring a single commercial ship to the Gwadar docks."

Chinese Naval bases in South Asian countries will make indians piss in their pajamas.

Read the article correctly:blah::blah: Did it says a Naval base ????
Did you know the term Naval Base?
Naval base is a secured permanent land or area for other country even the mother country has no right to enter in it without their permission.

There is no unrest. Not violence. It has gone down in the years after Bugti's killing.

But yes Anti-Punjabi, Anti-Army sentiments run large there.

Being a Baloch my self, General public is not against anyone Punjabi or army... its the few people mainly few sardars see differently... and the day Baloch public stands up they will go with punjabies coz our interests are same its just few sardars who want to go against...

reasons
1- they dont want schools for baloch public
2- they want all $$ in thier pockets not public
3- they want full control over public as thier workers
4- etc etc long list

These days with media and internet things are changing ... general public is getting everything thats why they are creating such hype becouse they know they are loosing thier so called empire to people ....

A proud Baloch Pakistani

Reminds me of the Oft-repeated statement of ZAB
If India builds the bomb, we will eat grass or leaves, even go hungry, but we will get one of our own.
This is the price the Land of the Pure are paying and will continue to pay, self-destruction for glory. You can continue to have another Yaum-e-Takbeer as and when your fantasy of Gwadar becoming a Naval base for China comes true.

Why isn't it a good idea.

The article doesn't says about a military presence, rather it is emphasizing on the port control by the Chinese and its further development, which the current operator has not done. Once China gets the port, it will further invest in it, in the infrastructure and it will become a corridor for the Chinese to easily export and import products to China, compared to the lengthy distance of sea route.

It will benefit Pakistan a lot, infrastructure development would mean for us better opportunities, Foreign Investment will come, even Chinese may put up some factories in Pakistan to further reduce costs, similarly MNC can set up projects in Pakistan.

Export opportunities, as well as revenues from the port business.

Road to Central Asian countries can open, which can bring in further revenues.

It can become an energy corridor for China as well as for export.

Lot of opportunities.

But condition is we play our cards the right way.

This article is not talking about military presence.

But still if it becomes the place as said, it may attract quiet attention and China may house a small naval presence to protect its interests.

I guess Gwadar port can prove to be the hen that lays golden eggs.

With Gwadar, Pakistan has both the sides of the coin in its favor. How..?

Option-A] If it gives Gwadar port to China -

- It already enjoys strong relations with china, this option will bring them more close in more spheres than just defence & economy.

- I believe, that the basic point of developing gwadar was to enable china to use a network of land transport of pakistan for the transit of its goods from the gulf. China would save a lot of cost that it has to incur now because of the lengthy sea route of Indian Ocean, which they may re-invest in developing infrastucture in pak.

- One of the biggest advantage of this move could be that it will bring a part of pakistan under china's defence cover. Its a fact that ports are guarded heavily and when it is given to china, it would be china who has to ensure the safety of the port. In any future conflicts of pakistan (God forbids) with any adversary, the enemy might take a chance to strike Karachi, but would hardly make Gwadar the target because that would mean dragging china into conflict.

- The infrastucture would be world class & that too in a shorter span of time & less expenditure because we know chinese are best in that at this point of time, ultimately, pakistan benefits.

Option-B] If it keeps Gwadar with itself -

- The region of Baluchistan will recieve most benefits in terms of infrastucture, industrialisation, employment generation, etc. which is very much necessary for that state/province.

- Pakistan has a second port after Karachi with great facilities and can divert some of the sea traffic from karachi to gwadar. With this port, pakistan can increase its sea transport potential twofolds.

- Its location in the persian gulf, a great strategic advantage.

So a win-win for pak, in my opinion.

Whether its with Pakistan or with China, its a win-win situation for Pakistan as well as Balochistan, as in the end development will happen in Balochistan too. If CAS countries use the Afghanistan route, it will come through Quetta-Turbat-Gwadar section, thus it can benefit Balochistan to the maximum. Balochistan will automatically attract investment in whatever the situation is.

And as said before, saying it again, the article is talking about giving running rights of the Gwadar port, not something else. The post management is currently Singaporean company and they have not been doing the work as per agreement, thus it has hampered the development of the port resulting in less activity as was anticipated.

So if Chinese take it over, they will invest in the port more, make more infrastructure.

Do remember the port operations management with Chinese is necessary, as they need to earn also on the investment they would be doing. So this is normal practice, those companies or company which makes the port also gets the management for a certain period so that they can earn back the investment they have done and the profit on it. Pakistan will have its own share out of the revenues generated by the port operations, while the company operating the port will make its own share as it would have done the investment.

The article is not about military things, plus in near foreseeable future, there seems to be no military thing happening on this side, as neither is the Chinese Navy strong enough, for now they want to make themselves economically strong and for that having an easy access through Pakistan is most feasible and economical way. They have already started plans for widening the Karakoram Highway, as well as laying the railway line through Gilgit-Baltistan connecting the line in KP. While, Pakistan is working on the local Motorway section and building it with the time.

Good read: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pakistan_Motorways

Here this map may give you an idea on how the process would work.

We should have given the port to Chinese in the start instead of Singapore Company.Besides; Even Baloch Nationalists like China! We also need to massively increase intelligence gathering capability in Baluchistan because there will be a lot of hostile intelligence operatives in Baluchistan trying to sabotage things.Iranian Intelligence, RAW, CIA, Khad everyone will have a incentive to not make this happen

.
What kind of a headline is "Gwadar Port may be given to China" ? It will be leased to Chinese port authorities and NOT given to them. Nobody is giving Pakistan's land to anybody including Chinese. These journalists don't understand the real meaning of words they use.

There have never been any doubts about Chinese expansionist and imperialistic plans. India has always been very clear about Chinese long term aims. We know what the Chinese aim to achieve through willing vassal states in Asia. Really no surprises there.
The spurt in spending on the Navy and high end acquisitions for the Air Force did not come out of the blue. We know what we are up against and we are preparing ourselves.

India was not keen on the IPI pipeline due to security concerns which were extremely accurately and correctly judged by us. Have we really lost an opportunity there? I think not. The idea of the pipeline terminating in China is nothing new. Not a bad idea at all. One never knows what may happen to the pipeline especially in times of crisis. No one should blame us if, God forbid, anything happens to it. After all, we have been shouting about the security aspect from the beginning. Right?
