Gwadar New International Airport – All you need to know about it

Gwadar New International Airport is an international airport that is a key project under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) framework. It is situated 14 km north of the city center of Gwadar. Its construction work has officially started in an orderly manner.
The airport will be capable of handling both domestic and international routes including ATR 72, Airbus, (A-300), Boeing (B-737) and Boeing (B-747). Also, the new
Gwadar International Airport will be able to cater to the largest passenger airline in the world, Airbus A380.
As of now, just Islamabad International Airport is able to cater to A380. Once the Gwadar airport is open it will be able to run under the “Open Skies” policy.
The Gwadar airport site is spread over 43 acres area. The main runway of the airport is 3,658 meters. The modern terminal covers an area of 14,000 square meters.
The airport is being designed and constructed in accordance with the International Civil Aviation Organization (CIAO) standards. The project is being highly funded with China investing nearly 1.7 billion yuan.
Mao Guoqi, deputy general manager of the Airport Engineering Branch of China Railway Engineering Bureau in Gwadar said, “The project is one of the key projects under the Belt and Road Initiative and one of the key projects under the framework of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). It is a great honor to participate in the construction of the project in a foreign country.
“We understand that responsibility is great. Under the guidance of the project consortium management organization, adhering to the corporate spirit of China Railway’s ‘bringing ahead and pursuing excellence’, the quality and quantity will complete the construction task as scheduled, and the Gwadar new airport will be built into the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) framework.”
The project is highly significant for Gwadar City’s development. It will lay the foundation for the enhancement of China-Pakistan economic and trade cooperation.
It is important to mention here that Prime Minister Imran Khan and the Chinese Ambassador Yao Jing performed the groundbreaking of New Gwadar International Airport (NGIAP) back on March 29th, 2019.
