What do you think Dubai & Abu Dhabi were like 30 years ago? Should they not have bothered?

Granted they had oil money to throw in, but Gwadar could work if integrated well into Pakistan and onward to Central Asia & China.

People of Dubai are sincere to their country and they do not have india and afghanistan as neighbours.

In my opinion, Gawadar should be made autonomous and total tax free. No political party ,no Pml n ppp or pti , none . Should be constructed based on Dubai and vegas model . All cars should be left hand drive there, so people do not buy and take to mainland Pakistan. trained international standard police. No indians allowed at all. Completely fortified. Everyone should be registered entering and living in Gawadar. IRIS AND FINGERPRINT SCAN

Agree on all, but we need to get out of our relaxed and carefree attitude before any of that gets enforced. You could have all that in place but the population still wants to bribe and flout the regulations.

What exactly is your problem? Lots of countries give tax breaks and incentives to certain areas to boost trade & investment. Other parts of Pakistan also have SEZs with similar benefits already.

Gawadar is a Jewel in the desert. It can be built from scratch. It would be a development platform.

The provinces already have significant autonomy and a lot of Federal powers have been devolved to the provinces since the 18th amendment.

The rationale behind giving Gwadar special status is to remove the roadblocks in terms of corruption & inertia in the provincial bureaucracy & government, allowing for quicker decision making and therefore making it more attractive for domestic and international investors.

Gwadar New International Airport is an international airport that is a key project under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) framework. It is situated 14 km north of the city center of Gwadar. Its construction work has officially started in an orderly manner.

The airport will be capable of handling both domestic and international routes including ATR 72, Airbus, (A-300), Boeing (B-737) and Boeing (B-747). Also, the new Gwadar International Airport will be able to cater to the largest passenger airline in the world, Airbus A380.

As of now, just Islamabad International Airport is able to cater to A380. Once the Gwadar airport is open it will be able to run under the “Open Skies” policy.

The Gwadar airport site is spread over 43 acres area. The main runway of the airport is 3,658 meters. The modern terminal covers an area of 14,000 square meters.

The airport is being designed and constructed in accordance with the International Civil Aviation Organization (CIAO) standards. The project is being highly funded with China investing nearly 1.7 billion yuan.

Mao Guoqi, deputy general manager of the Airport Engineering Branch of China Railway Engineering Bureau in Gwadar said, “The project is one of the key projects under the Belt and Road Initiative and one of the key projects under the framework of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). It is a great honor to participate in the construction of the project in a foreign country.

“We understand that responsibility is great. Under the guidance of the project consortium management organization, adhering to the corporate spirit of China Railway’s ‘bringing ahead and pursuing excellence’, the quality and quantity will complete the construction task as scheduled, and the Gwadar new airport will be built into the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) framework.”

The project is highly significant for Gwadar City’s development. It will lay the foundation for the enhancement of China-Pakistan economic and trade cooperation.

It is important to mention here that Prime Minister Imran Khan and the Chinese Ambassador Yao Jing performed the groundbreaking of New Gwadar International Airport (NGIAP) back on March 29th, 2019.
