QUETTA, Pakistan -- Gunmen opened fire on Pakistani security forces patrolling a remote border region near Iran on Thursday, leaving two troops martyed, a provincial minister said.

Four other troops were also wounded in the attack in the town of Turbat in impoverished Baluchistan province, said provincial interior minister Ziaullah Longove.

The troops were patrolling the region where smugglers have a strong presence. Pakistan has also stepped up security along the Iran border in recent weeks to check on movement of people in order to contain the spread of the new coronavirus.

No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack. Such attacks have been blamed on militants and small separatist groups. Baluchistan has long been the scene of a low-level insurgency by armed groups demanding more autonomy for the region and a greater share in the gas and mineral resources there.

The government claims it has quelled the insurgency but violence has continued.

It won't help,for using tanks and jets we need to have a considerable number of this filth on ground +having them hard infra,they don't have any hard infra and number of these terrorists is very low,even at their zenith they have been not more than 2000,such filth can only be taken care of by usage of surgical operations and hitting their handlers very hard.

even all groups combined they don't have that strength of 2000. The problem is porous border region, mountainous terrain and local facilitators like BSO, BNM & BNP.

addition to that the transports will assist them in moving in & out of the iran / border region without proper checks. I have already mentioned here on forum that few weeks back I was sitting with someone & we discussed that how we would travel across the border via buses without any form of identity document....We need to flush the area, targetted Ops wont help that much

I am pretty much acquainted with topography of area and citing grip of Iran and Afghanistan on matters concerning their border regions,any solution involving Muscle power is out of question.
All these terror groups combined have reached on a level that instead of threat they have became a nuisance for state.
Flushing that area is out of question,mind that we are talking about an area which borders two states and shares borders with them almost 1000 km long and area as a whole having variable topography,at mere sign of huge force these rats would run towards homes.
I suggest attack on logistics along with seeking a political solution.
