Gujarat Police officer Zamir Shaikh: BJP MLA, mayor, city BJP office bearers insulted and manhandled him while on duty
SURAT: A police sub-inspector (PSI) posted in Gandhinagar has filed a complaint in court on Wednesday against a group of people including BJP MLA, former mayor, city BJP office bearers and police inspector of Umra police station alleging that he was insulted and manhandled on September 13 last year.
PSI Zamir Shaikh had earlier lodged a complaint with Umra police station on September 14.
However, he claimed that no action was taken and therefore had to approach the court.
Shaikh has named former mayor and BJP councillor, Rajendra alias Raju Desai, BJP MLA from Majura Harsh Sanghavi, city BJP secretary, Madansinh Atodariya, BJP worker Dipen Desai and a group of BJP workers.
The accused, he said, had gathered at Parle Point on September 13 evening to celebrate announcement of chief minister Narendra Modi's nomination as BJP's prime ministerial candidate. Shaikh, who was posted in Umra police station, asked them not to burst crackers on the road. He flung a burning series of crackers from road to a divider which led to heated argument between police and the BJP workers.
Shaikh then lodged a compliant with Umra police station that few from
the group made comments about his religion, pushed him and stopped him from performing his duty.
Shaikh claimed in his complaint that few from the group spoke that 'You came here since you are a Muslim.' The complaint was registered under IPC sections 143, 147, 186, 332, 504, 506, 188, 353, 342, 294.
Shaikh told the court in his complaint that investigation or arrest was not done as per the sections included in original compliant. But the investigation police inspector C K Patel took action against the accused under 188 and 114. The accused were released on bail and the PI removed other sections from the compliant.
Shaikh has demanded re-investigation and action against police inspector Patel for working under influence of the political leaders. Patel has been recently transferred out of the city.
Shaikh filed the complaint in court under CrPC 202 through his lawyer Ilyas Patel. The court of J N Thakkar, chief judicial magistrate, asked police to submit a report in 30 days about actions taken so far.
