Pulsar's are overkill for delhi or any other Indian city.
I swear to lord I will catch a thief driving Bugatti or even a koegnigzeg Agera on foot on Delhi's outer and inner ring road.
These bike seems illogical on Indian street to catch some low grade thugs.

AHMEDABAD: The technical committee of Gujarat police has submitted its report to the DGP's office recommending purchase of 20 imported super bikes for Gujarat Police. Senior police officials in Gandhinagar said out of 20, seven Harley Davidson bikes of 750 to 1000 cc are likely to be procured before the Vibrant Gujarat Summit in January.

Senior police officials said the super bikes will mainly be used for piloting VIPs and chasing down runaways. "Trainers from the respective bike companies will coach a group of riders selected from Gujarat police for the super bikes," added a senior police official. More than 100 bikes of 220 cc were procured by Gujarat police in 2013 and had formed a Hawk squad to chase criminals. However there were incidents in which some of the untrained drivers were not able to handle bikes at high speeds while chasing criminals.Police sources said, "We could have procured more bikes before Vibrant Gujarat Summit but two companies out of the three said they would not be able to meet the deadline to fix special accessories and Gujarat police logo." "Hence only seven from Harley Davidson are likely to be procured before Vibrant Gujarat Summit. Other bikes will be procured later on," the sources added.

Sources in the Police Bhavan in Gandhinagar said technical committee had reviewed super bikes of four companies, Harley Davidson, BMW, Hyo Sung a bike manufactured by a South Korean Company and Triumph, a bike made by a British company. "The price range of BMW was high and hence we zeroed in on Harley Davidson for now. For the next lot we could take into consideration super bikes of other companies as suggested by the Technical committee," said police officials.

They are very useful in London and other large cities. They can respond quicker and be on scene in 10-15 minutes earlier then a Police van getting stuck in London's traffic.

Unless you are only going to be involved in high speed chases on wide open highway/GQ type roads, where horsepower matters, the perfect bike for cutting in and out of traffic is one with very fast pickup, light, good full lock turning ability, nimble, good shockers, and ground clearance. You don't need a near 300 pound Harley.

Most toxic choice. No doubt by a wannabe who has just heard of the "cool" American brand with zero idea of what's needed on the road.

I would first of all make sure that police bikers are young, well trained, have big balls (@mods - testicles .... if balls is against forum rules), and are properly geared.

Then give them light and fast bikes with none of that bull crap plastic stuff all around. Bajaj make value for money bikes. And owners are gujju too.

Then you don't need it even more. I can (and have) kicked Harley butt on my piddly 200 cc in city traffic. And cops are not the best riders out there. More often than not the quick getaway artists have light very fast bikes with great pickup which can be easily thrown around and cut in and out of traffic. The Harleys are a BS choice.

Its an utter waste of money.
If they needed a fast bike they could have bought a Pulsar 220 cc, more than enough for Indian roads and chases.

And atleast they would have been Made in India. The money for these Harley's is going to some other country where these are manufactured.

crime rate in Gujarat isn't high compared to a small state like Kerala where the highest rate of cognizable crime has been recorded. And why not some Indian bikes (make in India remember?) ??

Yaar, You came down to analysis!! when you have a little leg space, I think you should use it. Its not like you are taking 80 lacks off the rice pocket to put it to luxury (? right word?). Although, austerity is an excercize of caution, but that not the case here IMO. Rest I agree with you.

Dashyy give me one good reason why they had to opt for Harley davidson???
My question is why did they have to do it in Gujarat (not as if other states cant afford such luxury) but still why?? and why now?? Just that!!
I feel as if Gujarat has suddenly become the most important state in India. JMHO!

You know I love the fact that all our official Dilli India Gate, Rajpath type events use Tata Safaris (the beautiful old 3 L one with the classy original grille) as th official ceremonial cars/SUVs?

If as is being reported these 20 bikes are for leading a cavalcade for ceremonial purposes, nothing can beat the shaan and slow dug dug of a Bullet.
