Guitar maestro Faraz Anwar recently took to social media to share how he was recently denied housing on rent because he is a musician. He shared his troubling experience with his followers on social media.
Anwar was the lead guitarist in Noori’s live album Live at the Rock Musicarium and the frontman of rock band Mizraab. He has also made several appearances in Coke Studio.
He posted on Facebook to narrate his experience. "Yesterday I went to see a house portion for rent in Gulshan-e-Iqbal," he said. "The landlord asked me what do I do so I told him that I am a musician and singer. Today the landlord called me and said we can't give our house [to you] on rent cause you're a musician and we are very religious people."

Anwar said he doesn't "know what to expect from now on". "People over here are extremely religious," he continued. "We say everyone has freedom in Islam but this is how we treat our artists! This is so shameful and disgusting. Wake up musicians, this is how Pakistan is going to treat you. Stand up for your rights or leave this profession cause this is not [considered] a profession here anyways . We musicians are Muslims and believers at the same time; when people need entertainment they call us, when artists need a place on rent they say we can't give our place to non-believers [like you].
"You can't even open a bank account in Pakistan if you say you are a musician. Thanks to Pakistan for everything," Anwar said.
The guitarist shared another post to further clarify his point of contention.

"Let me clarify that it's not about renting a place it's about the musician rights," he said. "Musicians or artists can't open a bank account unless they lie. You can't write your profession on national ID card. Musicians can't rent out place for their families."
Anwar ultimately expressed his disappointment and said that perhaps what society truly wants from artists is "to keep their mouth shut and ignore what is happening".

. .
It's their prerogative, why is he looking for housing in the conservative middle class areas of the city. He should be looking in the Clifton/Defense area where most celebrity, showbiz and entertainment industry related folks live.

. .
Just sounds like miscommunication by the house owners in haste like "jaan churwao".

Instead of saying you can stay here as long you do not practice your profession, so the others living in the other portion do not get disturbed. (Which he wouldn't have agreed with any way because seeing his posts, it looks like that he is a pretty determined professional). But owners might have thought what if he agrees with it now and then starts to play loud music and jamming sessions later?

So they decided to say that they are religious, even if they aren't.

Jaan churwani thi app say, churwa li.

P.S. Its not just about musicians, I wouldn't rent my house out to models or celebrities or actors or pop stars. Just because of parties and drugs and other stuffs which these folks from showbiz bring with them (Not generalising everyone) but you can't take risk, can you?

.
Celebrities and their sense of entitlement is humbling observation for mortals.
we can judge
No you cannot judge.

Look at this homeless man and take heed. He judged.

First of all they reserve their right to not rent it is their property.

Secondly if they are religious that doesn't mean you start hating on them. And even if he was not religious no one will want to shor sharaba in their house 🙄

there's a thing called gillate mate
use it from time to time...

.
is it right to deny housing for just placing music in the name of right to refuse? in India many people deny houses to say beef eaters, that is obviously meant to target Muslims and lower caste people. I don't think such stuff can be allowed in the name of right to refuse. right to refuse is for convenience, not to use it as a right to discriminate for religious reasons.
(one can have issues with meat eating for ethical reasons, but if one is okay with pork or mutton eater but not beef, that is just discrimination, not ethics).

.
just using his celebrity power to make noise, I am sure that there are many people around who would rent him their house, he has not been living on footpath till now.

. .
here comes another miraaasi complaining about people being too religious. its their house their choice. when u start singing, dancing and having parties in the middle of the night then no one will rent u a house anywhere.

There are people like that in our society. We can't wish them away.
Let them be. They would evolve with time.
Find another home.
I have a friend whose jaw dropped when he found out that any one can come home after 10 and if he comes after 12 then he sure is doing something really sinister, who doesn't have TV and havent eaten a single time in a hotel.
People like that exist.
Dont take everything to heart and learn to ignore
