At least it is a transparent rate.
Whereas in Pakistan tax is highest in world but very deceptive and public doesn't even realize they are paying tax.
Asif Ali Zardari even levied tax on such shine in Karachi but you won't here anything about Zardari on Pakistan media.

Same here in India. People don't have knowledge about cascading effect of taxes that are imposed on the products that they buy. Finally it the consumer who has to bear all the taxes. GST subsumes all the different taxes that are imposed by the states and local bodies and makes India one market.

FMCG major Hindustan Unilever (HUL) has reduced the prices of some of its detergents and soaps, extending the tax benefits the company has got under the GST regime to consumers. The company has slashed the price of its detergent soap Rin bar of 250 gm to Rs.15 from Rs. 18 and increased weight (grammage) of its Surf Excel bar costing Rs. 10 to 105 gm from 95 gm at the same price.

Hypermarket Big Bazaar, owned by Future Retail Ltd, announced discounts of 2 percent to 22 per cent on groceries and household supplies across its stores in 26 states. Fashion portal Myntra, part of online retailer Flipkart, was also offering GST discounts.

Maruti Suzuki, Toyota Kirloskar JLR and BMW reduced the prices in the range of Rs. 2,300 to over Rs. 2 lakh of different models to pass on to consumers the benefit of lower tax incidence under the GST regime.

It has cut the price of Alto in the range of Rs. 2,300 to Rs. 5,400, WagonR Rs. 5,300-Rs. 8,300 and that of Swift between Rs. 6,700 and Rs. 10,700. It has also reduced the price of Baleno in the range of Rs. 6,600 and Rs. 13,100. The company has also reduced the price of Dzire, ranging between Rs. 8,100 and Rs. 15,100. Price of Ertiga petrol has been cut by up to Rs. 21,800 while that of petrol powered Ciaz by up to Rs. 23,400.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor also announced slashing prices ranging between Rs. 10,500 and Rs.2.17 lakh (ex-showroom Bengaluru). The company said it has reduced prices of all new Fortuner by up to Rs. 2.17 lakh, Innova Crysta by up to Rs. 98,500 and Corolla Altis by up to Rs.92,500. It has also lowered the prices of Platinum Etios by Rs. 24,500 and that of Etios Liva by up to Rs. 10,500.

Only 2% of Indian population pay income tax. So, only revenue is from indirect taxes. We have to see if these tax rates are going to bring in more revenue or not. We are already paying a number of taxes and people are used to high taxes.

Because direct tax collection in form of Income Tax is much higher in these places. In India most of the informal sectors like auto-rickshaw drivers pay no tax even if they earn INR 50-60 thousand per month.

That's freedom of speech for you. The politics in India is turning ugly. If you speak against the government, you will become 'anti national', 'Traitor'. There is no neutral views nowadays. It has widened to both extreme.
Similarly if I support the government I will be automatically branded a 'Bhakt', 'Sanghi'.

@The_Showstopper regarding GST. This is a collective responsibility of those guys who passed the bill. Including Congress, CPIM, Trinamul, SP, BSP etc... I remember these idiots together passed it. BJP is giving favors for the change in stance. These are all politics. Only we people are fighting, the leaders are just together in everything.
I find it funny when congress made all noise and finally passed the bill. Then during implementation they stay away.
If that's their politics then we are going to have Modi again.

Anybody can be critical of Modi or the government, no big deal! But using fake propaganda to pitch one section of society against another is surely anti-India, it can be all ethical for you but surely not for me. Also the door swings both ways a fake report on 'how owaisi is stockpiling knifes in a masjid' will also not just be fake news or critical news about owaisi but also a part of anti-India designs for me.

Agreed that Congress and other political parties in opposition are just doing it to earn some brownie points since there are sure to be some hiccups in implementation and the opposition is doing it just for the sake of it. I hope it won't get awry like demonetization.

India runs on good marketing and perception. Do you think Modi is not corrupt? His name was involved in good number of cases but he did well to dampen them. Priyanka is a good speaker and people will be inclined to hear her out.

Indeed the way MMS stayed mum over corruption, Modi does the same and he is not forced to be mum. He does it willingly. I can't really disagree with you over the attention he got because of media. Remember Delhi elections, opponents were attacking Kejriwal with negative press and he stayed on course with out returning fire and went on to win elections. So I guess that works for some.
