The launch of Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV), which was deferred on August 19 following a flaw in the rocket, will take place on December 15, Indian Space Research Organisation chairman Dr K Radhakrishnan said on Friday.

“The launch of GSLV D5 satellite which was postponed on August 19 about two hours before liftoff after detection of a fuel leak in the rockets’ second stage will now be held on December 15,” ISRO chairman Dr K Radhakrishnan said at an interactive session with students and teachers at Kozhikode.

GSLV is a three-stage engine rocket. The first stage is fired with solid fuel, the second is the liquid fuel and the third stage is the cryogenic engine. Geosynchronous satellites are placed in orbits 36,000 km above the earth.

Pointing to ISRO’s numerous achievements in the last 50 years, he said India ranks sixth globally in space technology. The primary objective is to advance space technology and use its applications for national benefit and for the people.

Radhakrishnan said India’s ambitious project Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM) will be launched from Sriharikota on October 28. It has undergone extensive pre-launch test at ISRO’s satellite centre in Bangalore, he said.

Nearly 100 students and teachers attended the programme at the Regional Science Centre and Planetarium.

If it had been a fuel ,, why do they have to wait for 5 months???.

We don't operate rocket with such limited capacity and reliability.

In fact, if you look at our recent developments, the gap between we two nations are widening so fast. when your nation is still trying to make GSLV work, we launched our Kuaizhou-1 to demonstrate the ability to put a satellite into orbit with only hours of preparation.

On 25 September 2013 China launched another earth observation satellite into orbit. The spacecraft, identified in Chinese press reports as the Kuaizhou 1, is a small earth observation satellite that will be used for disaster management and will be operated by China’s National Remote Sensing Center. But the launch had a second purpose: to test a new solid-fueled launch vehicle the Chinese military plans to use to provide a rapid ability to replace Chinese satellites that might be damaged or destroyed by an enemy attack.

The United States military refers to this capability as Operationally Responsive Space (ORS).
...
Should Chinese satellites used to provide imaging, communication and data relay functions come under attack during a time of war, the 2nd Artillery could launch small replacement satellites into orbit within a few hours.

ha ha ha ha.... which gap? in 3 decades India would be the No. 1 country in 90% of the scientific developments in the world.. China will have shifted from copying from west to copying from India..

the little not so significant gap is evaporating as water evaporates at boiling point.

Oh Come on, Quick response satellites for military requirements can be sent Via Agni V, it requires as much attention as the Chinese K-1. BTW who do you refer to as WE here.. Neither HK nor Taiwan has anything to do with this!!!

how is life in your imaginary world?

China has 10 institutions ranked as top 200 in Nature Publishing Index, india has ZERO:

do you want to compare the national average IQ or R&D funding? trust me dude, india is way behind in both of these fronts.

Agni V for quick response satellites? SHOW ME THE REAL STUFF, OR JUST SHUT UP.

Best of luck to the ISRO. Make us proud.

To the troll....... why the hell are you comparing your systems with us?
As per few of your esteemed members we are the third world country. So dose that mean that your systems are so unreliable or cheap that instead of comparing with US or Russia you left only to compere with us........

Wait a decade or so and we will surpass you in ever field.
