My sister in law usually orders grocery online from where I don't and neither do I care. Anyway, just last month while she was making a list of things to order, she randomly asked me if I want something and I just mention the name of a biscuit brand just for the heck of it. I went back to my room, started listening to music and surfing on pdf and around half an hour later I got a knock at my door and there it was, big pack of biscuit. Gotta admit, delivery was as fast as the pizza. And my sister in law isn't the only one to order things online - normal regular grocery fmcg things. Apparently, every young wife from the nieghbourhood is doing the same thing. Good for husbands, I guess :D

Update:

So, just an hour ago, my brother/sister in law ordered some stuff from Krave mart, since they are new, they gave some real good discounts and did deliver within 12-13 minutes. Amazing service.
I once mistakenly ordered 2 packs of milk on bykea during COVID, the dude went around the city looking for open shops and at the end charged me for the petrol. Later I found out, the rider isn't actually an employee of bykea. These online marts seem better though.

Happens in India too, Zepto and Dunzo offer 10 minute delivery, now food delivery startups like Zomato are offering 10 minute food delivery .

My brother works in India, the barber, electrician, delivery, plumber all come to his house from some app he downloaded.

It’s Urban Company, formerly Urban Clap.
They offer skilled technicians who provide various services to households. Currently AC servicing in summers remain in high demand.

Depends on the model they are following

a. In house merchandising
b. Tie-ups with local outlets.

For 10 minute delivery, they will have something called dark stores. These are basically small rooms with the top SKUs in stock. If you are ordering, preferably order from the in house merchandising people. Quality is better controlled in them. And returns can be initiated. With the local outlets/delivery app model, very difficult for returns. This is because, the seller and the transporter are 2 different entities.

On another note, if online grocery is picking up, invest in buying property a bit outside the city and long lease it to them for warehousing. No online person ever buys warehousing land.

Yes. Urban Company. You can order most things/services online. And prevalence of digital payments has really boosted the e-commerce space.

The next step is moving to Tier 3 and Tier 4 cities. The model for this is quite different though.

This is really not healthy. Especially Zomato employees who will be forced to do delivery in 10 minutes and can result in accidents for them and public. This stupid rule is already being called out.

Its being called out, its a stupid joke which these multi-billion valuation companies are doing. They’re interested in doing something new instead of doing something useful.
