The IAF chief arrived in Sweden to hold bilateral talks on defence and aerospace cooperation, which was initiated by PM Modi and his Swedish counterpart during the 'Make in India' summit.

Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha, who is on five-day tour of Sweden, was flown in a Gripen fighter plane on Thursday at the SAAB facility in Linkoping. He flew a Gripen D aircraft with Wing Commander (Flying) Michael Lundquist.

The IAF chief arrived in Sweden to hold bilateral talks on defence and aerospace cooperation, which was initiated by PM Modi and his Swedish counterpart during the ‘Make in India’ summit.

Sweden and SAAB had offered the Gripen for production under the ‘Make in India’ programme held in Mumbai last February. Both the nations ratified the deal during the ‘Shangri La Dialogue’ in Singapore on June 3. The agreement included the production of Gripen multi-role fighter aircraft in India and establishing a long-term relationship for future programmes including comprehensive transfer of technology and joint development of futuristic fighters (AMCA).

lol probably inorder to block Pak to get any jet make them there vendor

They will just try to get the suppliers in a bargaining spree for the next 10 years to try and block Pakistan, offer to buy ten squadrons and end up buying none. The world is not that naive as not to understand these indian games.

Without the DPP 2016 strategic partnership part being made public and declared now to be official (expected in June 15 DAC meeting), no MII can be formally signed.

It is under that model only one and all will be a part of MII especially for aircraft manufacturing.

Btw Saab still has to clarify about finmeccanica parts and program help to be swapped or replacement. Also DM MP needs to clarify on what grounds Gripen whose radar, EW suites, Jammers, etc are basically Finmeccanica funded projects and are their IP holdings is selected when other projects like blackshark torpedo is blacklisted for Augusta scandal.

It's a long shot but then for MII it's way too early for Gripen. In case they do also by renaming Gripen E with Israeli stuff replacing Finmeccanica products and naming the bird as LCA MK2 advanced, it's an utter slap on our LCA program and in honesty it shows that MP was blabbering only for show. He could not do anything to change the challenges faced by the program and rather is convinced about killing the LCA evolution by getting foreign birds in light category bcz LCA is slow in evolution as well as production.

We will come to know soon if the government was ever serious with LCA or not. If they are then they will push the LCA program and buy 300+ LCA upto 2030 easily by commitment and investments for hiking the rate of production. Or all talks about LCA being cheaper or LCA being a mini Rafale was just to win brownie points and quietly killing it by going for either F16 or Gripen

That seems to be only a MoU.

Btw Saab still has to clarify about finmeccanica parts and program help to be swapped or replacement.

Saab Microwave Systems own their own radar tech, the new GaN radar. SAAB has offered that to India.

And Saab has EW suite as well.

LCA will continue as is. IAF won't buy the Mk2, but they will buy Mk2 related tech for the Mk1s. IN will go for the N-LCA. At least about 200 LCAs will be built for the Indian forces, so it's not really a problem for the program.

If I remember correctly, a think tank advised GOI to stop LCA Mark-2 project as LCA after 2022 will be irrelevant.
And adviced to jump start AMCA and another light Jet project with JV.

I think LCA M1A will be what we see last of LCA. And this might be the said new light jet project

LCA MK2 would be a JV with SAAB.
