If you are talking about cloud based services, then yes. But for us, gamers, Tablets will always be shyt. Or for anyone in professional design services.

Everything will be cloud based. And also, one of everyone's home TV's or the Cable box would have three times the processing and storage capacity to current small business servers offered by Dell. That Cable box with or without a TV will offer you home Server capabilities. Tablets and TV's will just serve as your user interface, whether you like smaller (tablet) or larger (90 inch tv screen or a projector). This one little Cable box or a TV based processing system will be more than enough to replace 3-4 high end desktops today (average house hold has 2-3 computing devices like a laptop, a tablet and a desktop).
All other gaming, movie's, graphics and all will come through the Cloud so you wouldn't need a whole lot of processing for it.

Easy there.......many sales of laptops and desktops comes from developing world, majority of which still doesn't have access to high speed internet needed to stream so much data online. I have a 8mb/s DSL connection and i live in one of the most connected/accessible places in Pakistan, and i can barely stream 1920x1080.......that too only on one device, even though i have a full HD smart tv that can stream apps and content for me.

Cloud is good for productivity suites, but unless the internet catches up, you will still see on station work....and like i said, it is about the developing world.

I was referring to the US and Canada primarily. Then followed by GB, Australia, Germany, France and some countries from the ME. The rest of the world will be about a decade or more behind this shift.

I can testify to Internet woes in Pakistan. My stay in Karachi showed that 4Mb is still not available to areas with copper wiring despite customers being charged for the service.

But we can't deny that Cloud is coming soon. Microsoft ended releases of Windows and opted for incremental updates to focus more on Cloud storage and services.

A tablet is nothing but a over-sized smartphone, worse without voice calling facility, it wasn't supposed to have a market to begin with.

Small upgrades are sufficient for a PC, even for a laptop. I just added another RAM stick and a low-end Crucial SATA 120GB SSD as C drive on my 2009 PC, and it is again running like a tiger. :)

Raspberry Pi is a good development though, I think newer versions of it plugged into a TV will replace desktops in most homes for daily use.

No I dont think so. Most of the laptops will start to give way within 2 years of purchase. Wear and tear is more than enough to make it as cranky as a grandma on periods, lol.

If the built quality is not too poor, or you haven't plucked out the keyboard buttons, then a RAM upgrade and a SSD for C drive will pleasently surprise you...for general use of course, gamers have different needs.

Once configured correctly, it is 3K. And I'd rather be able to take my gaming anywhere.

I guess you are younger than I thought! :)

You are right. Plus with the new technology, you'll just need a cable box in the next ten years in the US. With over 5 TB of storage processing and a high end quad-core and eith-core processor. Streaming doesn't require a lot of computing (which will be your main source of data) and everything else, like games and all, can be shared among different tablets (before 2025) and after that, small paper-clip like devices that can project to any place or can actually create a head up display like monitor in the air.

Google is already starting to use this tech. Wherever you sit down with this device, you can connect to your home based server and create a display in the air through silicon components and military's head-up display technology. No need for laptops, or tablets when these devices become available. Google and a couple of other giants are already working on it.
