Grestest Warrior of World - Genghis Khan

Nader Shah was what encouraged the East India company to be as bold as they were and perhaps without his expolits, the British would have never had the idea nor resolve to conquer India.

Nah, it was probably Mir jafar that showed the british that south asian politicians can be bought and used against the local forces to conquer south asia.

Nader Shah hightlighted the vulnerabilities of the Mughals which emboldened the British to actually rule India.

The british would have been kicked in the nuts if mir jafar did not collaborate with the british. Nader shah isnt a significant person in encouraging the british to rule south asia

If you read in detail the history of Arab victories against Persia and Rome , you were amazed that they dont even have proper war uniform and equipments . They always won wars with divine support .

With poor leadership they lost a few battles as well despite having the faith, however the first Caliph quickly dismissed such commanders and assigned overall command to Khalid based on his military prowess and the rest is history.

Also, the Arabs were not rag tag warriors who had no skill.
They had the finest cavalry of the time, the Arab light horse was devastating in its stamina and speed.
They had a warrior culture in which every youngster had to excel in martial skills.
They kept their weapons sharp and in excellent condition as it was a source of pride for them, similar pride and love was shown for their horses.
Their poetry was mostly about war and its glory so it was indeed a warrior culture in which individually they were great fighters.

The only drawback and major one at that was the tribal nature and prevalent non coherent dynamics which ensured that they lacked the will and discipline to effectively create a large force.
This was the reason the Arabs were used as vassals for Roman and Persian empires and never thought about unifying and taking on the Romans and Persians who exploited their differences and inherent weaknesses in order to benefit their own empires.

However the advent of Islam changed this and when there was discipline and equality in the ranks. The Arabs transformed into a highly effective and mobile Army which easily outmaneuvered and outlasted the finest armies that Rome and Persia could throw at it.
There is no doubt in the minds of the historians as to the pivotal role of Khalid bin Waleed in making a world beating Army out of the Muslim Arabs.

Anyone who has started a war of aggression - as opposed to self-defense - is guilty of massive crimes against humanity. Makes no difference what race or nationality or person we are talking about.

So you are of course not a complete pacifist?

Syedna Khalid Bin Waleed [R.A] did achieve impossible in The Battle of Yarmouk .

Battle of Yarmouk was the most decisive battle ever fought in the history of this world, maybe second after Battle of Badr. But that had the direct affect on Islam but Battle of Yarmouk did decide the future of the world.

The video I posted on the first page has it all. Almost whole life of Khalid Bin Waleed [R.A]. Background voice is of Zaid Hamid and it has subtitles, the video is beautifully edited.

History is written by victors - Nader Shah will be a hero in Persia, Chengiz will be a hero in Mongolia and Abdali will be a hero in Afghanistan. Conversely they will be regarded as villains in areas they conquered and indulged in killings.

Nader Shah Afshar is a hero of Iran. He got rid of the Ghilzai Afghan invaders and also defeated Ottoman Turks and retook captured Iranian lands. He was no doubt a superb military tactician. But very few can compete with Alexander or Chengiz in terms of military conquest.

It is true that British Empire under Victoria was the largest ever, but this feat was completed over a period of 150 years. Chengiz Empire was achieved within a lifetime.

Dont see the connection of Nadir Shah and the British. It was Marhattas who took advantage of the weakness of the Delhi Moghals. Moghal empire was doomed soon after Auranbzeb died in1707. Bengal was one of the first provinces to declare independence. Ali Vardi Khan making his daughter's son his heir created a lot of jealousy among the Bengal notables. Don't blame defeat of an impetuous Nawab on Nadir Shah.

mir jaffar had a very huge hand in it and showed once again how traitors can bring empires to slavery it was he who paved the british way into the subcontinent by his treachery the britich were able to capture bengal where their permanent stay started from a small land colony to a large portion of area and from their they started to mess with the rest of subcontinent

I was simply noting that Nader Shah's invasion of Dehli was a like a catalyst to the British coming into power in India, as it might not have have happened at all or may have happened in a different way.

British east India company was opportunist( nothing wrong there, pure capitalism) and saw opportunity in having monopoly over business in certain section in India.
I dont think they came to rule, it is just one thing led to another and they ended up ruling the whole country

I think one very important general being forgotten here is Hannibal Barca. He humiliated the Roman armies in their homeland again and again.

His victory at Cannae is perhaps one of the most famous battles of the ancient world. He placed the mercenary Gauls and Celts in the middle, and knowing the superiority of the Roman infantry, he knew these mercenaries would be pushed back. On the flanks however he placed his veteran north africans who could hold up against the legionaries. The result was that the Romans managed to push into the centre of the Carthaginian lines but then ended up getting encircled as the flanks still held their ground.
Whilst this was happening the Carthaginian cavalry also mainly mercenaries had driven of the Romans cavalry and attacked the Roman infantry from the rear. The result was panic in the Roman lines. The Romans were now totally trapped and more than half of them perished roughly 40 000 men. In return Hannibal lost a mere 7000 men. His victory at Cannae is an example of how battles can be won despite being inferior both in quality and numbers, if the right strategies are adopted.

He was also a brave man, for example knowing the Gauls would have the weakest resolve to fight for the Carthiginians, he placed himself amongst them at the center to motivate them, rather than at the flanks with his veterans which would have been the safer option.

the greatest warrior is the one who can see through suffering in death....that way ...i'd say Ashoka---a man who saw the misery that war brought and converted himself into a man of peace and also took it upon himself to spread peace even when he had one of the largest armies(he nearly had the whole of India under his rule)
